For the hair, Mermaid Mask softens while adding body, and dare I say an un-earthly glow? It happened to my friend Em! To get your own Mermaid Mask party started.... For the face, mix 1 teaspoon of the mask with a few tablespoons of hot water and massage into your face. Leave on for at least 20 minutes. For the hair, mix 2 tablespoons mask with 1 cup hot water and stir well, leave on for at least 20 minutes then rinse. Store remaining mask in the fridge and it will last one week. Palate Polish is small batch and 10-free, excluding many typical toxic ingredients found in nail polish.

What does 10-free mean?
10-free polish excludes the toxic chemicals: Toluene, Formaldehyde, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Triphenyl Phosphate (TPHP), Xylene, Ethyl Tosylamide, Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) and Parabens.

...and what do those ingredients do?

Toluene affects the central nervous system and can cause headaches, nausea, dizziness and fatigue. Chronic exposure is linked to anemia, lowered blood cell count, liver or kidney damage. This is the solvent in nail polish that smell like paint thinner.

Formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen that has been associated with leukemia and asthma. It can also irritate the eyes, nose and throat and leads to skin irritation or cause an allergic rash called dermatitis. It is routinely used to embalm and preserve dead animals and humans.

Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) is a developmental and reproductive toxin. Our product omits all Phthalates, a group of chemicals that have been linked to obesity, allergy and asthma symptoms, reduced fertility, preterm birth and low birthweight. Exposure can affect thyroid function and may cause malformations of an embryo. They are used as a plasticizer.

Formaldehyde Resin is a derivative of Formaldehyde, it is not as toxic as Formaldehyde but can be an allergen. This ingredient is used in the manufacturing of adhesives.

Camphor is a poison that can cause seizures and disorientation. This chemical acts as a cover on your nails, depriving them of nutrients and causing the yellow staining on your nails.

Triphenyl Phosphate (TPHP) disrupts hormone regulation, metabolism, and reproductive systems. It is chemical compound used as a fire retardant in furniture and hardener in plastics.

Xylene irritates the skin, eyes and respiratory tract. It most commonly enters your body through the inhalation of vapors and is rapidly absorbed by your lungs. Symptoms include: headaches, dizziness, ataxia, drowsiness, tremors, ventricular arrhythmias, acute pulmonary edema, respiratory depression, nausea and vomiting. This solvent is used in synthetic enamels, paints, lacquers and varnishes.

Ethyl Tosylamide is an antibiotic resistance. It is used in low concentrations, but is a highly viscous liquid used primarily as a drippy-to-dry film former.

Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) is associated with allergic reactions and irritation to the eyes, skin, and lungs. It is preservative added to cosmetics in order to extend their shelf life and not cause bacteria to form.

Parabens are preservatives that have gotten a bad rep for their estrogen-mimicking effects, which may trigger major health concerns like hormonal problems.

Having recently moved to California, I have come to know and respect the heinous potential of poison oak. What a powerful and tricky plant! Chemical compounds called urushiols bring the burn in both poison oak and in poison ivy, which after contact, sink into your skin. Washing with soap and water (just water won’t do as the urushiols repel water) as soon as you come in contact with poison oak or ivy is key. Poison Oak Mud should be applied to the affected area right after it is washed. Leave on until it is dried and then rinse off. The bentonite clay draws out impurities and oils from the skin and the baking soda and salt have a neutralizing effect which help with the itch. The astringent properties of witch hazel extract tighten the skin and reduce swelling and itch. I make my jewelry and hangings one piece at a time in my studio in Queens, NYC. With a global aesthetic, I combine both clean lines and organic shapes, incorporating textural elements.

American is my fifth nationality. I’m Latina, but I don’t identify with the Dia de Los Muertos. I’m Jewish, but I’m an atheist. I’m better at grammar than a lot of English speakers, but I still forget key words in the middle of conversations. I’m a migrant, and was born in a family of migrants.
As a teenager, I hitchhiked throughout Chile during summers selling jewelry and leather goods that I made myself. Years later and now settled in the US, my designs translate my experience as an migrant living in vibrant New York City mixed with my longing for experiences in the calm and openness of nature.

Currently living in NYC, through my craft practice I try to stay tuned to the feelings of connection and adventure I enjoyed traveling through Chile, still moved by the magical landscapes that I was able to witness and that I carry inside me wherever I am. Whether through a piece of jewelry or a wall hanging I hope for you to pause, and find those silent and open spaces that are within you.

The beeswax wrap is the practical, natural and reusable packaging for your food. It replaces aluminum & cling film, plastic & paper packaging as well as bulky lunch boxes and can be used in the fridge or freezer, at home or on the go.

Beeswax wraps are water-repellent and flexible. Cover vessels and plates with the cloth, cling to cut fruit and vegetables, wrap salads and herbs, wrap cheese, bread and slices. Use the heat of your hands to mold the wax to the surface you are covering. Do not use to store fish or raw meat.
Set of four beeswax covered organic cotton sheets. One extra small wrap: 5.5” x 4.7”, one small wrap: 8.2” x 7”, one medium wrap: 11” x 9.4”, one large wrap: 16.5” x 14”.

CARE || Moisten the beeswax cloth and lather on soap while wiping with a clean sponge. Rinse the cloth as usual under cold water. If necessary, the beeswax cloth can be disinfected with vinegar. Be sure your cleaning agent is alcohol-free as this would dissolve the coating. Always clean with cool water. Let air dry completely before storing and using again.

The core of the business is the brush binding manufacturing at Sandsborgsvägen, Enskede – here 6 visually impaired craftspeople make brushes according to an old Swedish tradition. We also work with visually impaired craftsmen in Estonia. Like us, they too have a history strongly connected to the visual impairments movement. We care much for the craftsmen and the survival of the brush binding manufactory. We believe that many like us appreciate the feeling and quality of a hand drawn brush made of natural materials.
