It ain’t great for the health of your hair and scalp to wash your hair every day, dry shampoo absorbs oil and add body so ‘no shower day’ can be ‘awesome hair day’. Yet upon inspection of the dry shampoos out there on the shelf, even the products deeming themselves ‘natural’ are loaded with aluminum. Applying aluminum to your armpits is bad, but to your head- where your brain lives, is just stupid. And breathing aluminum powder in? Faa-get about it. Any powder you are applying that close to your grill should damn well be edible. I’ve been experimenting with just the right proportions of starch to cocoa to clay for months. The cocoa adds a yum smell and adds a little color so your hair doesn’t look dull and powdery, and the starch and clay absorb oil. The light brown color will work with all hair shades. A little lavender essential oil promotes a healthy scalp. Beware, the combination of lavender and chocolate may send you on a expensive chocolate bar binge. To use, dip a make up brush into the powder and tap off the excess. Part your hair at its oiliest sections and apply the powder using the brush. You may want to wrap a towel around your shoulders as not to get powders on you threads. Once you’ve applied the powder to your satisfaction, turn your head upside down and brush through. Viola! Artist Joe Roberts has spent more than a decade honing a deeply unique and unapologetically hallucinogenic style of art. In 1968, Magnum photographer Dennis Stock took a five-week road trip along the California highways, documenting the height of the counterculture hippie scene. These black and white photos were compiled to create California Trip, originally published in 1970, and became an emblem of the free love movement that continued to inspire throughout the decades. In print for the first time since its 1970 publication, California Trip is a faithful reproduction of Stock’s timeless work.

Dennis Stock was a celebrated American photographer, noted for his photo essays. His portfolio had a massive range and included many timeless pieces of work such as the free love movement of California, jazz, nature, and portrait work of icons such as James Dean and Billie Holiday. His photography has been exhibited all over the world, and his photos are part of many major museum collections. He won first prize in both Life ’s Young Photographers Contest in 1951 and the International Photo Competition in Poland in 1962. Stock passed away in 2010.

I started making Everyday Oil years ago for myself - simply because I couldn't find anything like it on the market.  All of the face and body oils I found didn't have the ingredients I wanted or smell like I wanted, and were often in tiny, expensive bottles.  It just didn't seem like it needed to be that way.  When you start really looking into skin care and ingredients, it becomes clear that there is a lot of misinformation, and the marketing and price point of products don't usually match up with the quality of the actual product.  I had some friends and family who were just slathering coconut oil all over themselves from big health food store jars, and I knew there had to be a middle ground there that hadn't been created yet.

Purified Water || This is a deionized water that has been boiled to ensure that there is no microbial contamination.

Coconut Oil || An excellent moisturizer that helps keep connective tissues strong and supple. The benefits of coconut oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and capryllic acid, and its antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial and soothing properties. Coconut oil helps prevent premature aging of the skin and helps treat many skin problems such as psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections..

Aloe Vera || Aloe Vera’s use as a soothing and healing aid for skin problems can be traced back 6,000 years to early Egypt, where the plant was depicted on stone carvings and presented as a burial gift to deceased pharaohs. It is known as the “plant of immortality” and heralded as nature’s gift to the skin. Traditionally, aloe vera was used topically to heal wounds and for various skin conditions, and orally as a laxative. Today, it is used topically for osteoarthritis, burns, sunburns and psoriasis, among other conditions. Its topical use has no known side effects.

Hybrid Safflower Oil || A special, cosmetic grade safflower oil known for its emollient, nourishing and protectant properties

Sorbitol || Derived from fruit, sorbitol works as a stabilizer and gives a lubricious feel to the lotion.

Cetearyl Alcohol || Synthesized from coconut oil, this wax-like fatty alcohol substance helps emulsify oils into a water base.

Emulsifying Wax || Derived from coconut oil, this higher-fatty alcohol wax provides pearliness and firmness.

Dimethicone || A silicon derivative that contributes a degree of water-repellency and leaves a soft, smooth feel without being sticky or oily.

Linoleamidopropyl PG Dimonium Chloride Phosphate || This is a natural triglyceride phospholipid derived from safflower oil, a sustainable resource. It contains a high level of linoleic acid so it evenly distributes essential fatty acids on the skin to give long lasting skin conditioning and repair for damaged dry skin.

Phenoxyethanol || Preservative, synthetically produced, but does occur naturally in very low levels in Green Tea.

Behentrimonium Methosulfate || Skin conditioning agent and emulsifier that is made from Behenic acid most commonly found in rapeseed oil (canola oil) and mustard seed oil.

Stearic Acid || This ingredient has none of the harsh effects commonly associated with acids. Stearic acid is part of the emulsifying system and significantly affects the consistency of the final product. A white waxy natural fatty acid derived from vegetables.

Caprylyl Glycol || Humectant that helps to attract moisture to the skin. Derived from coconut and palm oils – a sustainable resource.

Dicetyldimonium Chloride || An organic quaternary which increases the substantively of an ingredient; enabling it to protect the skin when other water soluble formulations are rinsed away.

Lanolin Alcohol || Derived from the sheep’s wool, lanolin is considered to be a true moisturizer. Working as an emollient, it is very beneficial in smoothing and softening the skin. Our lanolin is distilled, removing allergy producing impurities.

Fragrance || A light scent of coconut. Our signature coconut fragrance is derived originally from a coconut essential perfume oil blended with other fragrances to obtain our unique coconut fragrance. It does not contain phthalates or parabens and very few people have been allergic to it.

Fat, both in plants and animals, is where energy is stored. The richness we taste in food, and the suppleness we feel on our skin after a good slather of bath oil, is our bodies recognition of and pleasure in that vital energy. Oil from plants, in and of itself, is medicinal. I feel honored as a medicine maker to indulge in the play of fat and herbs, especially under the influence of the moon.

Scouring pad made of 100% loofah. This plant is related to cucumber and zucchini. The Loofah is organically and sustainably cultivated in Spain. No spraying is used and irrigation is done using natural rain and recycled thermal water. During manufacture, no chemicals are used, but only 43-degree thermal water softens the fibre.
When the scouring pad is soaked, it becomes softer and larger. It works on all surfaces and it does not scratch or destroy any material. It is ideal for use as a kitchen scouring pad or general scouring pad. The scoring pad lasts about 4-6 months depending on the use.
Clean the scouring pad by placing it in boiling water with mild washing-up liquid. Rinse it and let it air dry, use the handle. If it changes colour or becomes too soft, it is time to put it on the compost. 2 scouring pads included Length: 5" Width: 3.25"

The concept for Sisters Body became even more pressing for us as the political climate shifted in 2017, and the threat to defund Planned Parenthood and other women’s health services became a reality. One of the things we take very seriously around the Fat and the Moon homestead is magic, plant magic. I am so lucky to work with plants everyday and I continue to be amazed at their subtle and dramatic effect on the people and animals around me. One of the plants which has had a long history (or herstory if your hip like that) of magical use is mugwort, artimesia vulgaris. Artemisia - a word derived from Artemis, the goddess of the forest, the hunt and the moon. If you’ve ever met a moon goddess huntress, you’ll know what a bad ass she is. When I lived in Brooklyn, there were huge stands of mugwort I visited everyday and made a little tea from her. I have to say, the more I hung out with mugwort, the more I realized I needed to come into my own bad assness and follow my dreams- not other people's expectations. This herb has a lot going for it, but one of its aspects is a connection with dreams. I interpret this in a couple ways, one- mugwort helps promote vivid dreaming. Mos def. Two, I believe mugwort has a way of making us face our dreams, so we don’t keep pushing them aside for later. Mugwort has been used to keep evil spirits at bay, to cleanse negative energy and was slipped into shoes to act against weariness in travel.
