This Charles Rennie Mackintosh Willow Room Coat Rack was designed for the Room de Luxe of the Willow Tea Rooms in Glasgow, Scotland. The original was painted silver. Only two original examples exist.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh was one of the most talented architects of his time. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and was the apprentice of architect John Hutchinson before teaming up with Honeyman and Keppie. The spirit of his work is wonderfully reflected in his main work at the Glasgow School of Art, where it is possible to trace all the various stages of his career, from the influence of Art Nouveau, up to the geometric purism of the Modernist movement. His furniture designs are widely acclaimed as being the most brilliant and modern of all British furniture of the 20th century.

905 Lounge Series By Artifort

Mies van der Rohe's MR1 Stool takes advantage of the aesthetic qualities of tubular steel, a supposedly utilitarian material while exuding luxury through the contrast between padded leather and the minimalism of its polished chrome frame.  The simple continuous line of the structure in unmistakable Mies.
The MR1 Stool was designed in 1927 and first manufactured in Germany by the Joseph Muller Company. It is one of a series of chairs included in the MR Series that was developed for the Weissenhof housing development.  Early versions of Mies' MR1 Stool used cane, yarn or leather for the seat.
The MR1 Stool is quite similar in appearance to Marcel Breuer's Small Laccio table also designed with bent tubular steel.
Mies van der Rohe was born in 1886 in the German Rhineland.  He studied at the Domschule in Aachen from 1896 to 1899.  After leaving the school he started working for a number of businessmen and architects in Aachen.  Without a formal education, he started a practical education with Paul Behrens.  With Behrens, Mies received the opportunity to work on large projects, including the Allgemeine Elektrizitats-Gesellschaft Turbine Hall, and the German Embassy in St. Petersburg.

Mies Van Der Rohe Mr1 Stool

The Kokke Easy Chair was designed by Ruud-Jan Kokke in 1987. In the design, Kokke plays with the boundaries of craft, technology, and material. The manually assembled oak frame of the armchair is equipped with springy ash slats in the seat and back. The light construction is strong and also provides surprisingly much comfort. The model is included in various museum collections, including that of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Museum for Angewandte Art in Cologne and the Design Museum in Copenhagen. The armchair is available in natural oak or stained in whitewash, clay or black.

The MT1 Armchair by Driade in made through the merging of two polymers, even though this process takes place in a blast furnace.   Once extracted from the mold, a five-axis laser cuts off the lateral ends of the product, revealing the two-tone side of the MT1.  It is an extraordinary technical feat that creates an absolutely elegant piece of contemporary design that suited for indoor and out.

Bras Easy Chair High Back By Artifort

The Genni Footrest was designed by the Italian painter, architect, and designer Gabriele Mucchi in 1935.  Though Mucchi is known more for his paintings during the Italian avant-garde movement, this particular furniture piece, and the complementing chaise, have gone onto becoming modern classics.  One can easily see the influence of the Bauhaus period on this piece with its rectilinear shape and use of tubular steel.  Certainly, both Breuer and Corbusier must have been influences on this design that makes a wonderful addition to any living room or den.

Pierre Paulin designed the Tulip Chair and this Tulip Footstool in 1965. As if Pierre Paulin had premonitions of Flower Power, the Tulip Chair spreads its simple, half-open petals around the sitter, inviting and warming at the same time.
The non-swiveling disk base is finished in polished aluminum or powder coated. The post tube is chromed.

Pierre Paulin Tulip Footstool Disk Base By Artifort

Seen in homes, restaurants, and cafes around the world, the No. 20 Coat Stand is the perfect accessory for any entranceway.  The Michael Thonet designed No. 20 Bentwood Coat Stand is one of the famed pieces from Michael Thonet's original sales catalogs dating back to the mid-1800s.
1847 - 1850 marked an important time for Michael Thonet’s company.  At the Gumpendorf Workshop, Michael Thonet was commissioned to create a light and inexpensive café chair for the Café Daum.  The proprietor had seen Thonet’s A4 bentwood chair exhibited at the Lower Austrian Craft Association, and wanted to transform her fashionable coffee house into a modern café.   It was in the Café Daum that chairs were initially on public display.  Not long thereafter, Michael Thonet received an order from Budapest for 400 of these Café Daum bentwood chairs.
Though bentwood furniture has become unfashionable several times since Michael Thonet started in the 1800s, we now see a steady demand for bentwood furniture due to its enduring beauty, functionality, and recognition as timeless designs.

In 1937, Gerrit Rietveld designed the New Amsterdam Armchair for the 'New Amsterdam' Steamship. This flagship of the Holland America Line made its first trip to New York on 10 May 1938. The armchair was part of a complete interior design that Rietveld made for a first-class cabin. With his minimalist style, Rietveld created a cabin that had to meet the luxury and comfort of the modern ocean traveler. The most striking in the interior design was the comfortable armchairs. As part of Rietveld Originals, this design is now available in the Spectrum collection.

In 1967 Geoffrey Harcourt designed this futuristic design named the F510 Lounge Chair. The F510 is from a series of four contemporary chairs and footstools with generally the same shape, but varying sizes in width and height. Each has a comfortable shell seat. The F510 Lounge Chair can be considered a modern classic furniture item as it introduced a new business-like character that penetrated the homes of people with a taste for style via offices and public areas.

The Boson Footstool by Patrick Norguet was given this unique name after studying a book on matter apparently. According to physical theories from the 1960s, matter is strongly connected with "Higgs Boson", a particle or range of particles that shape substance. Norguet carried this concept to the Boson Footstool working with synthetic material, visual substance and weightlessness.
The first objective in creating the Boson Footstool was to optimize applied material to offer a new and plain seating system; minimizing the synthetic material to obtain an ideal balance between form and function.

The designer Fabio Novembre uses furniture design to tell intense and fascinating stories in which the protagonist is often the human figure.  This human figure is capable of becoming abstract and universal, able to propose a mythic beauty as occurred in Greek art.  In the Nemo Armchair from Driade, Novembre created a face with classic features hollowed out to create an inhabitable space.   The result is a head-armchair to be lived from the inside.  Like a mask, it simultaneously conceals and reveals its inhabitant.

The Stefan Wewerka B5 Single Tube Cantilever Chair is perhaps his most famous chair design.  Designed in 1982, it was likely to have been inspired by Silvio Coppola's Gru chair from the 1970s.
Stefan Wewerka is a German architect and furniture designer. Born in 1928, Wewerka studied architecture in Berlin after the Second World War. In 1979, he began collaborating with the German company TECTA on furniture design. His primary works have been unique chairs in which the visual arts and design connect in unique ways. Stefan Wewerka currently lives in Cologne and Berlin.
