The first handblown glass industry arose in Puebla, before expanding into nearby states. This St. Frank piece was made in a remote town in the neighboring state of Hidalgo, where the entire community works in a family-owned factory established thirty years ago. Each piece is created through a collaborative process where it is handed from one maestro to the next until the piece is finished.

The Chang-Ra mountain goat resides in the high altitudes of the Himalayan plateaus at 16,000 feet above sea level, withstanding freezing temperatures and harsh winds that stimulate the growth of the goats' super-soft undercoat. The word "cashmere" was coined centuries ago when a maharaja of Kashmir sent a gift of pashmina made from the fibers of this undercoat to the British governor of India. Today Nepalese artisans still use ancient hand-weaving techniques to spin these fibers into hand-woven cashmere blankets. This throw was handcrafted in Nepal from 100% Nepalese cashmere. The goat is hand-sheared, leaving the animal unharmed and handled ethically.

This fabric is inspired by a vintage Muong textile. The only surviving descendants of the early Vietnamese, the Muong have maintained their traditional way of life in the mountains of northern Vietnam. In Muong culture, young girls inherit weaving techniques from their mothers beginning at an early age. The harmonious patterns are colored by natural indigo dyes. Because their religious beliefs are rooted in animism - the belief in a supernatural power that enlivens the material world - the intricate designs of their textiles are said to subtly depict the weavers' souls.

In ancient times, from opulent Egypt to stark West Africa, fabric has been dyed a mysterious, beautiful blue. This indigo, or "gold blue," is a sign of prestige and a symbol of the link between heaven and earth. Through a careful process, indigo can produce a vast palette of blue hues; traditional dyers would ask their customers' color preferences, from the palest sky to the deepest midnight. Dye vats alone take a full week to prepare and require daily stirring. The un-dyed cloth is pinched, sewn, and tied according to precise patterns. Once dye is applied to the material, the ties are removed, revealing patterns of lines, shells, dots, or tracery. Cactus Silk Cxvii - Accent Framed Textile

This tray pattern is inspired by Kuba cloth, a unique form of textile consisting of various geometric raffia pieces stitched to a plain raffia background, creating complex designs. The result is a rough surface that is punctuated by repeated geometric patterns with unexpected interruptions in design. Men cultivate the raffia palm and weave the raffia cloth; women then create the patterned textiles. Traditionally, Kuba cloth was used as a wrapped skirt worn during burials. Later it was included in ceremonial dress for ritual dances and other celebrations.

The original textile was created with a crochet technique and is made from silk thread on a silk-cotton blend backing.

The alpaca is a South American camelid that lives in the heights of the Andes, more than 13,000 feet above sea level. The animal was revered in Inca times and possessed a religious significance; only royalty were allowed to wear the fine textile. Alpaca herds are bred specifically for their fiber, woven into the signature Peruvian textile. Baby alpaca fiber is especially luxurious, soft, and beautiful. This throw was handcrafted in Peru from 100% Peruvian baby alpaca. The alpaca is sheared, leaving the animal unharmed and handled ethically.
