Arne Jacobsen

As a little boy, Arne Jacobsen dreamed of being a professional painter. His career trajectory took a slight change of course when he enrolled in the Architecture School at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Fortuitous indeed, as Jacobsen is known as the “the greatest Danish architect” ever. In 1925, Jacobsen, still a student, won a silver medal for his first furniture design in the Paris Art Deco Fair. The piece was a seemingly simple rattan chair named “The Paris Chair”. The design still lives on today and is regarded as one of his most iconic pieces. Jacobsen’s style was simple but effective, essential yet distinctive. Even though he strongly despised the word “designer” and never used the word to describe himself, the world remembers him as one of the best there ever was.

Each of these extremely accurate bird calls takes years to develop and are the creation of Monsieur Morel who has been making calls since he was a child in the mountains of southern France.
Your call will allow you to learn to recognize birds by their song, to communicate with them, to discover, observe and love them – this, according to M. Morel, is “without doubt a first step in understanding the secret of happiness.”

Viggo Boesen is considered by many to be a key driver in the design aesthetic of the 30s and 40s. In order to understand the design style of this period, one must know Boesen and the funkis style he popularized. Boesen’s pieces are both delightful and durable — smooth, yet, solid. The Fox lounge chair, one of Boesen’s most iconic and famous designs, has been heralded as the quintessential funkis design, winning a prestigious design competition in 1936. His unique modernist design aesthetic coupled with the hard-wearing qualities of natural rattan made him unique and imaginative like no other designer of the “golden age”.

Nanna Ditzel

In 1946, at the astonishingly young age of 23, Nanna Ditzel graduated from the prestigious Design School of Copenhagen with a degree in furniture design. Her prior background as a cabinet maker provided her with a basic understanding of the elemental pillars of design, from the fundamental processes of its handcraft to the use of natural materials. Ditzel took it a step further and developed her own identity and style. Her designs were both experimental and innovative, so much so that several of her designs were rediscovered decades later. A timeless example of her forward-thinking design aesthetic is the Rana chair, honored with the 2013 Interior Innovation Award in Cologne. Ditzel rebuffed traditional design concepts and managed to successfully build her own, unique style consisting of organic, soft, and feminine lines.

From Jessica Stockholder's subversive meditation on the suburban home, to Chris Burden's quasi-legal "small skyscraper," to Barbara Bloom's dislocating architecture (unfeasible, save through future technologies), to Kevin Appel's ambivalent homage to modernism, Trespassing: Houses x Artists breaks through the conceptual boundaries that have historically divided art and architecture to describe new strategies of conceiving private space. In their individual collaborations with architects Alan Koch and Linda Taalman of OpenOffice, nine contemporary artists radically reinvent how domestic space is created and inhabited. The resulting works are open-ended, representing a rigorous new approach to visualizing form rather than a final product or conceptual destination.

Our Morinoki knives have detailed attention given to each knife's specialty blade.
The blades of the utility knife and petit knife have been carefully designed with a gentle curve and slim form. The Hard Cheese Knife and Pizza Cutter eliminate unnecessary projections and recesses as a top priority for them is simplicity. Detailed attention was also given to two types of serrated edges for the bread knife. The two types of serrated edges are specifically designed for cutting hard and soft bread.  The end of the blade easily cuts through hard crusts while the center part smoothly slices the bread. The knife makes a very clean-cut, creating beautifully thin slices and minimal crumbs.
Morinoki knives' wooden handles also were thoughtfully designed. Special attention was given to the square wooden handle made of solid Japanese zelkova. A natural-looking handle was created with the refreshing color and soft texture of woodgrain. The square form is gently curved for easy use in the kitchen, at the table, or during a party in the garden.

Tove Kindt-Larsen

Tove Kindt-Larsen played an important role in the development of Danish furniture design through her involvement with the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibitions from the 1930s to the 1960s. Tove married her husband Edvard in 1937 and together they established a design studio that produced furniture design, jewelry, accessories, textiles, and architecture. Tove studied under Kaare Klint at the Department of Furniture Design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts after years of designing furniture. Edvard was a trained architect and first gained recognition from a grand-scale hotel project by the lakes of Copenhagen.
