ABOUT RENÉE REY
Renée Rey is an award-winning painter living in New York City and southwest Florida.
Her other-worldly spaces flirt with romantic ideals of historical legend and utopian future. Rey draws upon the current social and political climate as fluidly as she borrows imagery from science, culture, and wisdom literature suggesting complex narrative threads. Washes of vivid color create a sense of weightlessness and defiance of gravity.
Rey was born in Japan into a dual diaspora heritage: Jewish/American optometrist father, and French/Armenian/Christian fashion designer mother, and refugee grandparents. Rey came of age in the environmental and civil rights zeitgeist of the 1960's and 70’s in upstate New York. An interior architectural design career informs color, material, and spatial choices. Mesmerized by Lucien Freud’s tactile juicy oil paintings of larger than life nudes, Rey embraces his uncensored fragility, enigmatic rawness, and freedom to push paint in a new direction.

Claire Price was born in New Zealand, studied Fine Arts at Canterbury University and began working as a photographer from the age of 18. Parallel to that, Claire continued to paint and began writing songs and performing. She signed her first record deal in 1998 and in 2000 moved to Paris to pursue music. Claire lived in Paris for 15 years, put out several EPs of music, exposed and sold her paintings in cafés and galleries and continued to work as a photographer specializing in fashion and portraits. In 2015 Claire moved to the US where she continues to paint and work as a photographer.

ABOUT LESTER SÁNCHEZ
Lester creates a series of portraits inspired by historical characters that wander our collective subconscious. He wants to feel connected with his subjects in a particular way; sort of an intimate dialogue with the iconic aspect of the individual portrayed, expecting the viewer also will have their personal dialogue with the piece; or even let their life story unfold before the piece. Sometimes portraits can also be based on significant individuals like close friends or family.
He drips industrial paint onto a flat canvas with loose expressive gestures, taming the accidental, mixing colors optically, constructing layers of texture until the desired image results.  Lester also uses traditional painting methods as well as mixed media.  His work is influenced by artists such as Chuck Close, Andy Warhol, and Jean Michel Basquiat.
Lester Sánchez was born in Habana, Cuba, where he studied fine arts at the National Academy of San Alejandro.  In 2001, he moved to Miami, where he received the Wolfson Scholarship for the Arts awarded by Miami-Dade College.  He was awarded First Place jurors’ choice, in the prestigious ‘League for Innovation’ national competition, organized annually for all of art disciplines.  Lester has been the subject of several art shows, grants, and honorable mentions, featured in local and national art magazines, catalogs, and pedagogical book covers.

ABOUT HOLLY SUZANNE RADER
Holly Suzanne Rader began her fine arts career as a classically-trained portrait painter, while in recent years evolving into a sculptor and mixed media artist exploring a wide range of materials including acrylic, photo collage, wax, resin, paper mâché, sequins, glitter and even candy. She is drawn to subject matter typically of vintage glamour. Bright drips of paint, glitter-enhanced photos and high gloss finishes create a visual seduction of color and texture. The overture of her work, whether on canvas or in sculpture, evokes a playful presence of the feminine soul.
While completing her MFA at the Savannah College of Art and Design, she travelled extensively and received international recognition. She was a featured artist in the 2002 Women by Women exhibition at the Mona Bismark Foundation in Paris. She was commissioned to create paintings for the 2006 Scad Fashion Gala honoring designer Vera Wang. In 2010, the college commissioned her to create over one hundred mixed-media fiber works to be installed at their new Hong Kong Campus.
Cottage Living Magazine described her work as ‘blending femininity with modern form.’ She has also been featured in the New York Times, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Le Monde and Le Figaro magazines.

Trump suffers an extreme case of narcissistic personality disorder. The potential consequences for the human race of this man’s mental state, now that he has acquired power sufficient to destroy civilization with the push of a button, suggests a story line from a vintage action-hero comic book: the fate of the world at the mercy of an all-powerful villain.
The number one action hero of Trump’s childhood was Superman, who was the leading 1950’s DC Comics character, the first action hero to have a TV series with a large and loyal audience tuning in every week. Fighting for ‘Truth, Justice and the American Way’, Superman’s enemies were an endless progression of comic book villains.
Over the many decades of Superman comics, some of the story lines have featured Superman overwhelmed by evil forces, a rogue villainous Superman who becomes a direct threat to truth, justice and the American way. That rogue genre of Superman comic books provided me a metaphorical stand-in for Trump for my new series ‘The Adventures of President SuperDude’.
In this series I have collaged comic book images of a rogue Superman into wall-hung three-dimensional cartoons composed of typewriter pieces, plastics, and other found objects, mechanically connected with nuts and bolts as well as springs. These machine-like constructions illustrate the dysfunctional, illogical machinery already evident in the nascent Trump administration.
They also foreshadow the likely disasters ahead resulting from the executive branch of the American government headed by a mentally ill man.

ABOUT MICHAEL MILLER

Michael Miller, born in Glasgow, Scotland, trained in painting and drawing in Italy, Switzerland and Mozambique. On moving to the USA in 2010, Miller studied abstract painting, drawing and assemblage at the Art Students League of New York. In May 2012, he was awarded the League’s Henri Matisse Estate Merit Scholarship, and in 2014, he was selected as a visiting artist at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

In January 2016, Miller moved to Santiago, Chile, where he currently lives and works.

In addition to his regular art practice, Miller has been involved in a range of community-based public art projects in New York, and has supported a number of arts-based not-for-profits as a volunteer artist. From 2012 to 2015 he sat on the board of SONYA (South of the Navy Yards Artists) in Brooklyn. He also sat on the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s exhibit advisory committee.

Michael Miller is trained as a social scientist, and has studied at the Universities of Edinburgh, Leicester and Pennsylvania, as well as the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. In 2001, he earned a PhD in contemporary history from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Miller is also a long-standing supporter of human rights, and has published work on a range of issues including violence against children, gender-based violence and the prevention of torture.

When I was 17, I had a summer job working as the assistant in the advertising department of the original Abercrombie & Fitch store on Madison Avenue in New York. (No, not the Abercrombie people know today. Abercrombie & Fitch was the world's finest store for all sorts of sporting, hunting & fishing equipment. It's where Teddy Roosevelt, Ernest Hemingway and John F. Kennedy shopped.) Every day A&F ran an ad on the same page of the New York Times, and my job was to get all the materials for that ad, have the art studio create the layout, and then take the "mechanical" of the ad to the NYT building on West 43rd St. on my way to Penn Station to go home to NJ. The next morning on the train back into NYC, I would see the ad (my ad) printed in the paper. That started my love of advertising.

College came next and I studied fine arts and languages. I wanted to work at the UN and travel the world. But, I took a painting class at Skidmore and turned a corner. I had my own studio at school and painted large Monet-inspired abstract landscapes.

After graduation when I was looking for a job in NY, I answered an ad for a studio assistant and discovered it was for Helen Frankenthaler. She invited me to tea at her home. All seemed great until she told me it was an unpaid job. Unfortunately, I needed a job that paid.

So, advertising it was...and is. I’ve loved it and have been able to travel all over the world shooting commercials.

Some years ago, I started passing the time in airports and on flights by tearing bits of color pages out of magazines and gluing them into a notebook. Those were my first collages. I love playing with the shapes and colors…having them clash and collide and finding their right place.

The collages are the first step. Next, comes the paintings - large paintings. And, I’m exploring turning some works into large 3-D pieces. We’ll see what happens…

My studio is in an 1840s building that was a General Store and Post Office.

In 2017, Kavi decided she was ready to share her creative vision and start telling her story. Today, she has developed a distinctive style involving a multi-layered approach which gives her the ability to encapsulate political phrases and poetry into each of her creative works. Kavi’s mixed-media art is unpredictable and possesses its own energy, her dedication and talent having allowed her to excel as an artist creating pieces that have generated great interest among collectors and gallerists alike.

Julia Rivera is a talented and well-educated painter who has pleased many art collectors with her daring use of color, the internal rhythms of her compositions, and above all, her playful and refreshing imagery.
In her painting, Rivera, who was born in the Bronx in 1965, and who studied art in Florence, New York, and the School of Plastics Arts of Puerto Rico, creates an attractive, fairy tale universe where carefully chosen objects – clocks, fruit, little toy cars, bottles and elongated chairs – are arranged in order to let us see their essence in a surreal but celebratory manner.
Mallarme pointed out that a good poem has to be enigmatic. I believe that good works also have to possess magic and mystery. A good work of art does not let us know everything. Influenced by Gorky, Miro, Chagall and Matta, and quite aware of what has happened in the field of ‘lite’ neo-figuration during the last three decades, Rivera combines humor and poetry to conceive well balanced scenarios where the mundane and metaphysical establish dialogue about time and the human condition.

In life, as in photography, the light which penetrates through the negatives radiates and creates the positive. The one cannot exist without the other. Mira collects these rays of light into a geometric and harmonic composition. She is traveling throughout the world as a bystander to reality and has gathered her inspiration with time from people, their feelings, desires, disappointments and dreams.
Mira has learned photography over the years through her experience. She responds intuitively to the moment and devotes herself to the sensory experience of photography.
Her images were taken in different parts of the world and are reflecting different periods in the progression of Mira’s photographic language – one might consider them as a quotation of moments she had experienced. Moments which might be passed without paying attention to their existence, Mira is capturing them and revealing their magic.
These images are ambivalent, and do not surrender easily to the viewer’s eyes, they can be interpreted in more than one way.
In this way Mira creates the space for the viewer where he can fill in his personal insights and feelings, it might be regarded as a kind of correspondence with the viewer.

My work is like a type of photography, but using clay. It becomes like diaries or maps that are recording the many walks I take around the city. Whilst walking, I am looking at overlooked details in the landscape, things deteriorating, things seemingly unimportant, or things under threat to disappear. The essence is capturing things that are significant for documenting a particular place at a particular time. As I am walking and rewalking I discover new and different things each time. I touch and explore textures and fissures in the landscape with my hands and body and I take prints of what I find with clay – like 3-dimensional photography. Back in the studio, I make plaster moulds from the clay prints made whilst walking. My cast pieces are made using the same moulds with very different results each time. I'm letting the pieces grow organically, and sometimes partly collapse, according to the laws of gravity or entropy. They are never really ‘finished’, but rather frozen somewhere during this process. Textures on the surface look like growth rings or skin.
I only went out for a walk, and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.

Born in Vancouver, B.C., Spanish-Canadian artist Andrea Mindell Cohen’s educational background spans undergraduate studies in art history and photography at the Lorenzo de Medici School in Florence, Italy, fashion and textile design from the International Academy of Design and Technology in Toronto, Canada, and a BFA from Otis/Parsons College of Art and Design in LA.

After working many years in the fashion industry, culminating in her clothing line Agent 99, Andrea settled in Barcelona, where she began working as a textile and graphic designer. It was during this time that her collages, prints, and graphic creations started taking on a life of their own, leading Andrea to develop a fine art practice. In 2011, her practice brought her to Tel Aviv, Israel, where she completed her first series of paintings.
Currently residing in her home in Barcelona, Andrea’s work is exhibited and collected internationally. Her vision continues to evolve, drawing from her own colorful upbringing and extensive travel, steeped in a combination of traditional and contemporary cultural influences.

Twig Lips is a New York City based artist. Self-taught, she has been painting since 2017, transforming canvas with acrylic, oil, ink, and watercolor.
Her nom de plume is derived from the original source of her inspiration for painting. She began painting lips--the shape of which eventually evolved into her signature flowers that have remained an important part of her work.
Twig Lips intuitively channels her paintings, creating pieces that align with her vision of balance, with each element of her work charged with a dynamic magnetism that creates a sense of harmony and power for the viewer. She is constantly reinventing herself through different techniques, colors, and mediums. Her bold colors paired with delicate details make for a reimagined abstraction, suggesting ideas about the relationship between nature, the metaphysical world, and art. The paintings of artist Claire Price are infused with memories of New Zealand where she was born and raised. Her bold acrylic paintings—which range from images of the fabulous to glimpses of the disappearing natural world—are charged with mystery and activated by intense, artificially charged colors. Price co-mingles affection and pathos for her subjects as she explores the terrain of memories and photographs, transposing culture and nature into her distinctive personal idiom.
Interested in the expressive possibilities of “technical narrative,” which suggests that the traces of an artist’s efforts are in themselves a kind of subject matter, Price’s layered canvases transmit the many decisions she makes while painting. Swaths of intense hues, skeins of drips and delicate impasto textures make in-person inspection of her surfaces a sensually-charged experience.
Price is a multi-talented creator who has previously worked as a freelance photographer and a singer/songwriter. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, but has lived and exhibited in New Zealand and Paris. Price’s photographs have appeared on album covers, and in publications including Elle and Wallpaper. During her musical career she created and released two EPs and was a member of the band Frank, which was signed by Universal Publishing.
In a recent interview published by Art in Res, Price described her work this way: “I am also drawn to imagery I find campy, fabulous, daring, and sometimes a bit spooky. I love using bold color and I try to create work that brings joy and has an element of intrigue.”

Laurent Elie Badessi is a Franco-American fine art photographer born in France. He belongs to a family with three generations of photographers. From an early age, this enabled him to explore and appreciate the art of photography. Badessi started his career in Paris and continued working abroad before moving to the United States in the early 1990s.
Badessi uses symbolism, mythology, and historical and cultural references to create his images. The study of the interaction between him “the photographer” and his subject “the sitter”, and the exploration of the impact of photography on people, are both fundamental vectors in his artistic quest. His work often addresses subtle and relevant questions on social, political, and cultural issues, such as the relationship with nudity, religion, war or the environment. Innocence (2009-Present) explores “the fragility of life”, an important topic in his work.
Solo and group shows of his work have taken place around the world in major cities like New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, London, Milan, Rome, Paris, Nice, Barcelona, Kuwait City, Beijing, Monaco and Dubai. Badessi lives and works in New York City.

Mark Gens is a multi-media artist whose work includes collage, installation, video, e-literature, sculpture, and critical writing. He received his BFA from Otis College of Art in Los Angeles CA and his MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY. Mark is a queer boy who came out in New York City in the midst of the HIV/AIDS crisis of the 1980s.
This deeply personal and political experience became the driving force in his life and in his studio practice. He has worked throughout the US teaching art to children and adults, participating in intercultural art programs, and exhibiting artwork. Although the 1980s and 1990s were a dark time in the life of NYC, Mark was also aware of the phenomenal burgeoning creativity: hip hop culture, activist art, community organizing, ACT UP, etc. He understands how creativity and cultural production have always served well political and personal action. Over the past four decades Mark has maintained a prolific art practice, “I have engaged image, object, space, and audience with the goal of raising consciousness and awakening perception.” While the core of his art practice remains the same, Mark is always exploring new methods, materials, and imagery.

REAL FAKE / FAKE FAKE
From the series ‘Real Fake / Fake Fake’, a series of works that was painted between summer 2016 and 2018, a period that has seen remarkable political and social changes.

A key element of these developments has been the apparent decline of ‘truth’ and the ascendancy of the label ‘fake’. Facts are no longer debated and contested – they are simply rubbished and dismissed by political interests and their supporters. In the UK, Brexit promises were unceremoniously ditched the day after the referendum. In Syria, the regime and its allies have consistently denied the use of chemical weapons and other human rights abuses, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. And in the US, the political system is all but paralyzed by the rise of ‘fake news’ and partisan accusations and counter-accusations which frequently have little bearing on anything we might recognize as the truth. Meanwhile, Richard Prince’s designation of one of his own artworks as ‘fake’ in early 2017 raises provocative questions about ‘real fakes’ and ‘fake fakes’ in the art world. Miller’s series of ten paintings reflects on ‘the decline of truth’, exploring aspects of deception, fakery and mendacity through the visual vocabulary of dazzle camouflage. Dazzle is a form of geometric, high-contrast patterning developed to protect transatlantic shipping during the First World War. It was intended not to hide a ship, but rather to break up its form and outline and obscure its heading and speed. Like all forms of disruptive camouflage, dazzle is founded on the apparently paradoxical idea that concealment can be achieved through a deceptive form of revelation. While these works might give the initial impression of legibility and openness, a closer look reveals inconsistencies, revisions and distortions. Forms move and float in ambiguous pictorial space, often obscuring other painting layers in a literal ‘cover up’. Each work therefore asks the viewer to consider not only what is revealed, but also what is concealed. This relationship between the seen and unseen is underlined by the interplay of transparency and opacity, and by ambiguity in spatial representation and the definition of volumes. The application of paint suggests weathering and corrosion, underlining the maritime origin of disruptive dazzle schemes. Lines, marks and other compositional elements are left visible in an apparent gesture of ‘truthfulness’, but in many cases these elements are spurious additions, introduced to undermine any suggestion of pictorial integrity.
ABOUT MICHAEL MILLER

Michael Miller, born in Glasgow, Scotland, trained in painting and drawing in Italy, Switzerland and Mozambique. On moving to the USA in 2010, Miller studied abstract painting, drawing and assemblage at the Art Students League of New York. In May 2012, he was awarded the League’s Henri Matisse Estate Merit Scholarship, and in 2014, he was selected as a visiting artist at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

In January 2016, Miller moved to Santiago, Chile, where he currently lives and works.

In addition to his regular art practice, Miller has been involved in a range of community-based public art projects in New York, and has supported a number of arts-based not-for-profits as a volunteer artist. From 2012 to 2015 he sat on the board of SONYA (South of the Navy Yards Artists) in Brooklyn. He also sat on the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s exhibit advisory committee.

Michael Miller is trained as a social scientist, and has studied at the Universities of Edinburgh, Leicester and Pennsylvania, as well as the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. In 2001, he earned a PhD in contemporary history from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Miller is also a long-standing supporter of human rights, and has published work on a range of issues including violence against children, gender-based violence and the prevention of torture.

About Chris Marmier:

As soon as Chris Marmier could hold a pen, he started drawing and has never stopped. Born in a bi-cultural family that travels throughout the world, he's always observed, reproduced and reinterpreted the little details of a constantly changing environment.
After studying visual communication in Paris, he has worked in advertising agencies as art director. Currently based in Amsterdam, he is a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. The sides of his notebooks have always been filled with little figures that later expanded into a first exhibition. Armed with ink and acrylic paint, he expresses his own vision of our world(s).
