The design of Eero Saarinen's Executive Armchair (1957) began more than a decade earlier, when he and Charles Eames submitted several designs to the Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition at the MoMA. The pair, who'd been friends and collaborators since meeting at Cranbrook Academy of Art, won first prize. These fluid, sculptural shapes influenced the future work of both men; for Saarinen, most notably in his Womb, Tulip and Executive chairs.

The Executive was originally made of fiberglass but was later updated in polyurethane to take advantage of the technical advances in plastics. The feel of this classic seat, however, remains unchanged. The molded shell flexes slightly with the sitter and the contoured plywood seat supported by metal or wood legs. Unlike Saarinen's furniture, which was consistently sculptural in form, these fluid lines didn't appear in his architecture until the 1950s.

Sc24 Loafer Dining Chair

Title

Part of the luxurious Embrace Collection, the E015 Embrace Lounge Chair was designed by EOOS for Carl Hansen & Søn in 2016. This chair was especially designed with relaxation in mind, given its soft cushions with increased padding and a lowered seat, providing enhanced comfort.

The overall frame is made up by a continuously visible wooden structure with a three-piece, rounded back and characteristic legs. The chair is made with a three-dimensional cushion that embraces the wooden frame, as well as the person sitting in it, with soft and elegant upholstery - hence the name of the piece.

The E015 Embrace Lounge Chair is also available with its matching footstool, sold separately.

Established in Vienna in 1995 by Martin Bergmann, Gernot Bohmann, and Harald Gründl, Austrian design collaborative, EOOS draws inspiration for their works from a unique process called Poetical Analysis. Their method focuses on myths, rituals and intuitive expressions, to make connections that extend beyond initial perceptions. EOOS view design as a poetic discipline, and believe that end results should be able to take on changing needs and desires.

Spine Daybed

Eero Saarinen vowed to address the “ugly, confusing, unrestful world” he observed underneath chairs and tables -- the so-called "slum of legs." A five-year design investigation led him to the revolutionary Pedestal Collection, introduced in 1958, which was inspired by a drop of high-viscosity liquid. His now-iconic Pedestal table features a cast-aluminum base with abrasion-resistant Rilsan® finish and a solid Vetro Bianco granite top.

All-weather hardware and outdoor-appropriate materials ready the classic Saarinen table for a life outside, delivering an elegant focal point to any outdoor setting. Each piece is stamped with the KnollStudio logo and Eero Saarinen’s signature.

Vetro Bianco is a polished, bright white surface that is non porous and more compact than most granites (imagery not available for Vetro Bianco top/Black base combination). Comprise of 93% fused quartz. It does no yellow or stain and is scratch-resistant.

Spindle Bed

In 1950, the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild’s exhibition presented furniture under the theme ”A Hunting Lodge”, in which Børge Mogensen had, for the first time, designed furniture using a solid wood framework with saddle leather forming the seat and back. This methodology was inspired from medieval Spanish furniture construction, something that Mogensen would return to time and time again.

In 1958, Mogensen used solid wood and saddle leather to create the Spanish Chair for Fredericia. On a journey through Spain, Mogensen had noticed a traditional type of chair with wide armrests, common in areas influenced by ancient Islamic culture. Mogensen combined this notion with his earlier works and signature functionalism. The wooden construction of the Spanish Chair is formed with geometrical precision, achieving a sturdy design with exceptional durability and enduring character. Back home in Denmark, Mogensen presented the Spanish Chair at the Copenhagen Cabinet-makers Guild’s Exhibition. The broad armrests serve as a practical place to place a glass or ashtray, allowing the user to dispense with occasional tables or other furniture from the surrounding area. In doing so he achieved a more open and informal space for relaxing and conversing.

The materials used for The Spanish Chair and Hunting Chair are of the finest selection and execution, from the quarter-sawn solid oak, to the vegetable tanned leathers and brass buckles. The rustic combination of materials develops a special patina that only becomes more stunning with time.

A revitalization of Arne Jacobsen’s iconic chair for Fritz Hansen, the Oxford™ Premium Chair is an approachable and modern take on a classic. Made of a molded sliced veneer and fully upholstered, the Oxford™ Premium features horizontal stitching and a huge selection of upholstery and finish options. While perfect for the modern home or office, the Oxford™ is always reminiscent of its origins at St. Catherine’s College in Oxford, bringing elegance as well as comfort to your work space.

The Oxford™ Premium Chair is made of molded sliced veneer. It comes fully upholstered in three layers with horizontal stitching. It is available with a low or medium back height with armrests. The fully upholstered shell is available in a wide range of fabrics and soft leather. Pricing is based on the Oxford™ in Fritz Hansen’s Christianshavn fabric. The base can be configured with either double-castors with aluminum caps and black plastic housing (height adjustable with tilt mechanism) or black-grey plastic toes (fixed seat height with spring function). The base comes in two finishes: satin polished aluminum (standard) or mirror chrome. Automatic return, leather padded armrests, and alternative castors are also available.
