In 1952 Mogensen built onto the Søborg series with a steel-framed version, a design that he viewed as a reflection on international modernism. The generous back and seat with optional upholstery provides for many hours of use. Merging his signature love of solid wood with his new-found passion for plywood shells, Mogensen crafted the Søborg Chair with soft rounded corners and gentle lines in a timeless design that appears light yet solid, with an ample-sized seat and back to ensure endless hours of comfort. It is a handcrafted approach to an industrial dilemma that highlights the textural properties of solid wood, plywood and later steel, in a subsequent version for the frame.

The One Well Known Sequence series introduce black anodised aluminum as a new material to the brand’s collection. Taking a selection of key pieces from the limited brass edition launched in 2015 with Nilufar gallery, this collection communicates the same luxurious qualities through the new material. The designs evolve as a parallel repetition of rods, either in a metal or illuminated. Bulb and fitting sit side by side in all of the lights, abutting vertically in the case of the floor and pendant lights, stacked horizontally in the table pieces.

Inspired by our contemporary, nomadic nature and the need in public places to accommodate personal items, FRONDA offers a single wood shelf beneath its sculpted steel seat. FRONDA is the first Mattiazzi chair to use wood for structure and metal for its seat. This inversion of material and function makes for a chair and a stool that are complimentary but individual in character. When placed side by side, the pine base creates a natural spacer that allows people to sit next to each other comfortably.

Mogensen’s evolution of ‘The People’s Chair’ – designed in 1956 and dimensioned as a generously proportioned and sophisticated upholstered dining chair. The robust dimensions of the chair’s spokes and legs make this a stable, sturdy design, allowing for hours of sitting. Adding to the comfort is the upholstered seat characterized by a simple curve, capturing another signature trait of Mogensen – to never lose sight of a design’s original intent and functional purpose, while avoiding any unnecessary elements.
