Go with one or cluster them all. However these color tables are used, they manage to serenely transform a space in part due to their muted colors, retrained pattern work and geometric shape. As major fans of Scholten & Baijings, we were over the moon at their collaboration with Japanese heritage brand Karimoku New Standard. The Amsterdam duo are only among the latest to join the KNS. Some 70 years into producing quality furniture with a MidCentury sensibility, Japanese brand Karimoku decided in 2009 to write a new chapter in design by engaging in collaboration with a young crop of international talent and rechristening itself as Karimoku New Standard. Solid Japanese hardwoods such as maple, chestnut and oak are the basis of a line informed by a cultural understanding of craftsmanship coupled with innovative technologies in terms of manufacturing and sustainability. To preserve and revitalize Japanese forests, the hardwood used is from low-diameter trees, long underused. Made of chestnut, the Colour Wood Collection includes these tables and the Colour Wood Bins (oversized canisters also at A+R). Each piece is distinguished by the soft pastels to fluourescent pink that are a trademark colorway of Scholten & Baijings. The lines and patterns are layered on these pieces for a modern take on traditional Japanese shapes and techniques.

Description

Minimalism was never so crystal clear. Mouth-blown glass with a polished edge form the clear lampshade of this classic re-imagined by lighting designer Sofie Refer. Whether on her own or under her studio Refer + Staer, the Danish lighting designer continually plays with the concept of "clear." There's even 7.5 feet of transparent cord that can be trimmed to suit. The high grade of the glass is paired with a fine porcelain socket and stainless-steel accents. A white, low-profile canopy blends into most ceilings. The Bulb SR1 is the smaller sister of the Mega Bulb SR2 (incandescent bulb not included). When the Bulb came out, it quickly took several accolades including the coveted Good Design Award in 2001—two years before Sofie graduated from the Danish Design School. The gal knows her lighting. Rah-Rah-Rah! Taiwan designer Kenyon Yeh was charged up to create the Yeh Wall Table for Menu when he happened on cheerleaders from a local school. "I was walking to my studio and two students were practicing balance and strength for their cheerleading routines. The guy was with his back resting against the wall, in a sitting position without a chair, while the girl was standing on his thighs with her arms stretched out," he recalls. With coated steel standing in for athletic muscle, Kenyon devised a peppy little table that stands on only two legs. The remaining stability comes from the part of the thin tabletop that is bent upwards in a 90-degree angle against the wall. No other support needed, so it's a lightweight and mobile side table for plants, a lamp or bedside clutter. Gimme a Y!
