More than twice the size of the VP1, this pendant is exactly as its name states: big. Like its little sibling, the VP2 is made up of 2 semi-circular facing spheres—the upper sphere twice as large as the lower one. The late, great Verner Panton believed in the possibility of a happier, brighter future, and designed with this in mind. The visionary Dane was the first to do inflatable furniture, cardboard houses and single-form, injection-molded plastic chairs—and all with an optimistic nod. Those chairs appeared in Stanley Kubrick's 1968 masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey; the same year experienced revolutions in the streets of Paris, Rome and the U.S. celebrating change by a generation fueled on Flower Power and a new outlook on the world. Verner marked it all the next year with the FlowerPot collection of table and pendant lights. Spherical, bold and modern, they are as fresh looking now as they were in 1969. No wonder Copenhagen house &Tradition decided to reissue them.

From the Baroque to the Bauhaus, Berlin's architectural heritage makes the city an unrivaled destination. With its many trees lining the streets, Tiergarten Park is an oasis of green lying just west of the Brandenburg Gate along the river Spree. Chisel & Mouse provides a bird's-eye view in its artfully hand-cast, 3-D model in a resin plaster. Enclosed in a perspex box, it can hang on a wall or sit on a table top. Brit brothers Robert and Gavin Paisley painstakingly reproduce select cities and stand-alone buildings in resin plaster (free of toxic solvents) of a reassuring weight and cool smoothness, with fine details including window frames etched in metal. In their Sussex studio, the "Chisel" refers to traditional plaster-cast methods and the "Mouse" to the computer-aided design (CAD) technology and 3-D printing used to achieve the sculptural models.

Description

Nerds will inherit the Earth! Well, at least these Nerds can command a room. This all-wood seating series by David Geckeler (also check out the corresponding bar and counter stools) suggests signature Scandinavian qualities in terms of materials, craftsmanship and profile. Yet Nerd looks new because of its overall expression, including a range of 8 colors to mix and match. The standout feature, of course, is the intersection of the back through the seat. A strong statement alone in an office or salon, or as a set around a dining table. It took the Beckers International Design Award in 2011. And Danish brand Muuto not only gave it its 2012 Talent Award; as manufacturing partner, it also decided to set the Nerds out into the world. Furniture, tableware and lighting are among the categories David's work emphasizes. He studied industrial design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and, later, graduated from the University in Berlin, where he now keeps his studio.

Nerd Chair - Quick Ship

Description

"An exquisite jewel," is how designer David Trubridge describes the kina, the Maori name for a tiny sea urchin native to the waters in the designer's adopted home of New Zealand. It also served as the form for his Kina Pendant Light. A passion for the environment and earth drives the construction of all David's work, primarily made of renewable bamboo and flat-packed to reduce freighting and packaging resources and the identical pieces make home assembly a snap, literally. Endlessly adaptable, the light is available in 2 sizes and 9 stock colors (custom colors upon request) in natural or painted bamboo with nylon clip fasteners. The celebrated designing craftsman ended up in his adopted home of New Zealand after he, his wife and their two sons sold everything and set off on a yacht for a world adventure. It culminated in 1985 when they decided to remain there. While an artist-in-residence, he built a house and suddenly found himself with further commissions. Before realizing homes, lamps and furniture, David left Newcastle University in 1972 with a degree in Naval architecture. His work has appeared in countless museums, including the Victoria & Albert and the Pompidou Centre. That barely scratches the surface of his fascinating story and work ethos.
