We like D.S. & Durga’s tale behind this smoky, musky scent: “A fire broke out in the Curling Bros. Barbershop in Westlake, N.Y. in 1891. All the shaving tonics with their spearmint, lime, vanilla & lavender burned. A charred bottle was found half-full. It smelled like this.” With base notes of burnt oil, vanilla, and hay; middle notes of lavender, Turkish rose and absolute; and top notes of spearmint, lime, and hemlock spruce.

- Alexander Pushkin, the Great Russian author, was married to a great beauty named Natalie Gonchareva. Among her admirers was George d’Anthès, a young French officer. Their constant flirtation infuriated Pushkin and provoked the imminent duel. Wounded by d’Anthès, Pushkin perished two days later.
- Aleksandr takes you through the fateful day of the duel: from the gentleman’s toilette, through a sleigh-ride in the cold winter air and into the heady forests outside St. Petersburg…It travels, like a bullet in the air, from a cold shot of vodka to a warm fiery heart.
- In his novel Eugene Onegin, Pushkin described the dressing cabinet of a 19th century Russian gentleman filled with crystal perfume bottles, amber pipes from Turkey, silver grooming utensils and other costly merchandise from France and England.

Based on our research into 17th century perfumery, INFANTA EN FLOR is the portrait of the Spanish Court: it's affinity for orange blossom scented powders, rose-scented rouge and fine kid leather gloves. A clean and musky powdery opening gives way to a suggestive dry down, easy to wear yet very proper, perfect for both women and men. The most modern interpretation of the Spanish Golden age. - Spanish princesses are known as Infantas; in the 17 th century, France’s political enemy was Spain. Marriage to a Spanish Infanta would reconfigure the balance of power in Europe, and eventually turn France into the hegemonic power.

- When Louis XIV first appeared in the room’s threshold, the French Queen Mother gestured to the door and asked the Infanta what she thought of the new arrival; the Infanta blushed and responded “ The door seems quite beautiful and strong…”

- The Suede accord in Infanta en flor hints at the Peau d’Espagne perfumed leather gloves in vogue at the time, while the rose and orange blossom notes evoke the heavily-scented rouge and pale powdered skin in of the Spanish delegation.

- The Architects Club was inspired upon reading the story of Claridge’s renovation in the late 1920’s by two famous Art Deco architects, Oswald Milne and Basil Ionides. By 1930, it contained some of the city’s most brilliant Art Deco interiors.

- The perfume focuses on the contrast between the Victorian exterior and the new, sparkly interiors. As the renovation work finished, architects would gather for a drink and a smoke and admire the stylish design of velvet, leather panel walls, exotic woods and frosted glass panels. The sudden irruption of the city’s fashionable youth, with gin martinis, and vanilla cigarettes in hand, adds zing and freshness to the composition.

Inspired by jet-set Acapulco in its disco heyday. A voluptuous chypre scent evoking 1970s poolside glamour, plunging necklines and honeyed skin. Tropical flowers and rose-scented lipstick give way to a spicy sweetness and the carnal notes of an intense, heady embrace. With notes of: Cannon ball tree flower, Turkish rose, jasmine absolute, cardamom absolute, patchouli and civet.

History

December 1978, Armando’s Le Club, Acapulco, Mexico.
It’s a sultry night of disco, plunging necklines and champagne-soaked skin. Lights flash and strangers kiss, but it’s her, dancing, that commands the attention. She moves, panther-like, her honeyed skin creating an addictive sweetness and magnetism that only a deep chypre fragrance can deliver. She’s met her match on the dance floor, and it’s her animalic instinct that follows him outside, onto the golden beach, under a silvery moon.

- ÉL and Ella were inspired by the decadence and glamour of  Acapulco in the 70s. December in Acapulco was the obligatory stop in the jet set calendar, with lots of beach and pool time and endless partying. The 70s were an era of glamour and sensuality heightened in here by the heat, the magnificence of the bay and magical sunsets.

- With Él and Ella we were looking to create the impression of a scent macerating on skin, something more sensual and playful. The idea was to recreate the scent of HIM and HER just as they leave the disco, they come together and embrace…what would each smell like? HIM with his unbuttoned shirt and his burly scent, her with her plunging neckline and her voluptuous femininity. In ÉL and ELLA skin, sweat, cigarettes, champagne, sand and heat all come together under in a sophisticated way.
