I first met Tim Presley in 1997 when both of our hardcore punk bands were booked at the same garage show in Southern Califoria. We became quick friends, and a year later, his band would join mine for a joint East Coast tour. Tim was just as creative and inspiring then as he is now and it's been with so much admiration and joy to see his creativity flourish in all it's forms. He's prolific without pretension, and undeniably cool without any ego. I always catch him when he plays in New York, and he even took the time to graciously paint a mural in the shop's dressing room in 2018. So it's with great pride to have his book in the shop.

Under the Banner of Concern is a compilation of drawings and poetry from acclaimed artist and musician Tim Presley. Featuring art from Presley's 2019 exhibition in Chicago and Los Angeles - Under the Banner of Concern - the black ink drawings merge abstracted and expressionistic brush and line work, the latter of which breaks down figures into simple forms. Characterized by Presley's "every figure" symbology in their emptied out flat bodies and hollowed eye sockets, these figures are represented as both sexualized and mask-like. In addition to his exhibit drawings, the book also features previously unreleased artwork, as well as new poetry from Presley.
Tim Presley is a musician, producer, and artist based in San Francisco, who began his career with the hardcore punk bands Model American and The Nerve Agents. In addition to releasing music under his own name, he has also released albums under DRINKS (with Cate LeBon), W-X, and most notably as White Fence - which he has performed under since 2010. Presley has exhibited select artwork around the country, and previously published his art and poetry in You Don't Have Your Eyes Yet (2010) and Mush (2016).

Death Of Lovers, The Acrobat (color Vinyl)

This is one of Fela Kuti's most notorious and well known albums. Nigerian police, seeking to put down this independent-minded rascal, tried to plant a joint on Kuti during a gathering at his home. Wise to their plan, he quickly swallowed the joint, but the police then threw him in jail to produce the evidence from his faeces. He escaped charges with some wily plotting, and then produced this song mocking the police for wasting resources on hassling him instead of furthering justice in Nigeria. Opening brass rounds give way to interplay between Fela's narration about the episode and responses from his group of female singers. Originally released in 1975, this is the 2014 pressing from Knitting Factory Records.

Back to Black is the second and final studio album by Amy Winehouse, released in 2006. Winehouse predominantly based the album on her tumultuous relationship with then-ex-boyfriend and future husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who temporarily left her to pursue his previous ex-girlfriend. Their short-lived separation spurred her to create an album that explores themes of guilt, grief, infidelity and heartbreak in a relationship.

Influenced by the pop and soul music of 1960s girl groups, Winehouse collaborated with producers Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson, along with Sharon Jones' band The Dap-Kings, to assist her on capturing the sounds from that time period while blending them with contemporary R&B and neo-soul music. One of the most essential records of the last twenty years by a talented voice that left us too soon.

Released in 1992, Check Your Head is the third studio album by the Beastie Boys. Less sample-heavy than their previous records, the album features instrumental contributions from all three members: Adam Horovitz on guitar, Adam Yauch on bass guitar, and Mike Diamond on drums. In contrast to their previous album, Paul's Boutique , the Beastie Boys returned somewhat stylistically to their punk roots on Check Your Head , playing their own instruments for the first time on record since their early EPs.
