Together, they are strong, but also I would argue, more beautiful. When lines are repeated, or wires woven, there is a loveliness to the pattern that fascinates and pleases. A symmetry is created that is calming and classical. "I often explore materials and create collections which are craft based. Twist was created while experimenting with intertwining wires. There is a fluidity and movement to the twists that I love. The twisted wires suggest a coming together of things that I find poetic."

The purplish black color I achieved is a combination of the calmest of blues with the fiercest energetic red I could find."

Shell Sculpture

The “Faith” sculpture takes its inspiration from the Khor Virap monastery which is the symbolic birthplace of Christianity in Armenia. It was at Khor Virap (Armenian for “deep dungeon”) where the man who would become Saint Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned in a pit for 14 years before he helped turn Armenia into the first Christian nation. Before attaining sainthood, Grigor Lusavorich was held in the bottom of a pit, where he was secretly fed by a local Christian woman who kept him alive. Later, after curing King Trdat III of a disease, he became the religious mentor of the monarch. During this time, Grigor would be instrumental in converting the king to Christianity. In 301 AD, King Trdat III proclaimed Christianity as the state religion of Armenia – marking the first nation to adopt Christianity officially. “I first visited Khor Virap as a teenager over 40 years ago. The feeling I got while climbing through a small hole and descending into the dungeon where St. Gregory was thrown to die is something that I will never forget. The idea that a man could survive in those conditions for so many years was astonishing to me and is a testament to the depth of his Christian faith.”

Reminiscent of Jackson Pollock's artistic technique of splattering paint onto his canvas, Michael Aram introduces After the Storm, a collection created by dripping hot molten metal over formed curves and flat planes. After the Storm is inspired by the pervasive sense of calm one feels when a storm has come to rest. It is the celebration of the serene afterglow; the moment when the sky clears, the breeze is soft, and the streets are purged by the receding rain. "A few years ago there was a big storm that I watched from my window. The torrential rain hit the window, spattered, and dripped down my windowpane. Once the storm finished, a mixture of curiosity and cabin fever lead me outside to explore the wreckage left in the wake of the storm. Branches were downed, leaves and mud combined into sludge caught in the storm drains. There was something beautiful in the newly formed clusters of natural elements which had been pulled together by the storm. I wanted to capture that sense of unpredictability in the intensely spontaneous flow of natural material in each piece."
