Lars Beller Fjetland's Turned collection of characterful wooden birds is made using leftover sections of wood. Composite blocks of the waste wood are turned on a lathe to reveal the birds' smooth and tactile forms. Sometimes simplicity is best. Designer Jonah Takagi has reduced the humble coat hook to its most basic elements and produced a design that is beautiful in its purity and modesty. Ash, oak, or walnut are turned and varnished, and a clever aluminum mechanism is hidden inside for easy attachment to the wall via a single screw. The Peg Hook is a functional hero, reminiscent of Shaker objects and other utilitarian designs, made to do its job without fuss or noise.

Cork is a wonder material—naturally warm, flexible, strong, water resistant, and renewable. Designer Lars Beller Fjetland was inspired after salvaging soft, smooth pieces of driftwood cork from a beach in Norway and went on to use it as an alternative to upholstery in our family of Drifted Stools. The warm and tactile cork seats are paired with sturdy oak frames for strength and longevity. Drifted is available in two heights and two types of cork; the darker version achieves its deep color from being smoked.

Fashion designer Arthur Arbesser has a particular skill with pattern and color. His bold graphic prints are frequently inspired by the architecture and design heritage of his home city, Vienna. For Hem he has applied his skills to a series of rugs and throws. Each features a distinctive stylized pattern in an appealingly unconventional color palette. The Block Throw celebrates industrially inspired lines but also colourful Optical Art which tends to give the viewer an impression of a pattern within the pattern. This especially thick and warm throw is made from fine New Zealand lambswool using traditional weaving techniques. Perfect for colder climates or chilly days.
