Yukiko Morita loves bread. When she was working at a bakery she was so sad at the end of her shift, when she had to throw away what didn’t get sold. She thought the loaves were just so beautiful—such a shame to waste! And so, Pampshade was born. Yukiko bakes real bread, then hollows it out, fills it with LED lights, and coats it in a thick resin that keeps it fresh looking forever.
I got one for my kitchen, but these would also be so sweet in a kid’s room or office.

The smallest of the bunch, but the one we keep finding new uses for. Run a line of them holding votive candles across your mantle, set the table with personal-sized sauce bowls, keep sea salt close at hand (don’t mess with salt spoons—salt is antiseptic; pinch away!). Toddler Cups are the perfect primer into the world of "special objects" and learning how to handle them. These semi-precious little clay vessels are more durable than you'd think (though please be aware that 3-year-olds with clay vessels and concrete or tile is asking for tears) and they hold the ideal amount of orange juice that won't be a pain to clean up if spilled, and they're healthier (and less smelly if you leave stuff in 'em) for your kids and the Earth.

Did you know the Greek and Latin words for spoon are derived from cochlea, or “spiral shell”? That’s because seashell was one of the very first materials used to make eating utensils. Way back in the Stone Age, early humans were hollowing shells into spoons and fork-like pokers and attaching wooden handles. These are a little less rudimentary, but we love the simplicity of little utensils made from shell, bone, and horn.

In efforts to lessen our waste and bulk in the kitchen, the Brewing Basket has become a true staple in our everyday routine. It’s ultra-fine mesh keeps the grit out (which we often experience with traditional infusers) and a lid to keep our drinks nice and warm while steeping.

We've made the tough decision to put tours on hold for the time being, in an effort to do our part in preventing the spread of COVID-19 in this critical moment. We appreciate your interest in visiting our factory, and we hope you will consider scheduling your tour when we all feel a little more comfortable about gathering together as a community. Sharing our process with our East Fork community is one of the greatest joys of our work here. We love giving yours. That said, we trust the advice of health experts who are encouraging individuals and businesses to take preventative measures to keep our communities safe. Practicing intentional, thoughtful, compassionate social distancing is one of those measures.
Our store on Lexington Avenue will remain open during regular store hours unless otherwise stated. We hope you'll visit the folks in the shop—they'll be there to greet you with a friendly bow! Please do practice common-sense preventative measures if you swing by, such as sneezing and coughing into your elbow and avoiding handshaking.
