Man or machine? It's no riddle in Massproduction's elegantly refined Tio Chair. Designer Chris Martin's fascination with industrial methods dictated the medium-steel wire produced on a computer-controlled bending machine—but his method was hands-on. "The design for Tio was the end result of a few months of thinking, sketching and sculpting," says the British designer. As multi-purpose seating for indoor or outdoor use, the stackable chair harmonizes with a large variety of architectural styles. In galvanized metal wire covered with a polyester powder coat, the 10 available colors offer wide versatility (with an optional padded seat available as well). Chris and design partner Magnus Elebäck take outdoor-indoor furniture to another level via their Stockholm-based firm, Massproductions. The extensive Tio collection offers tables to seating, in a range of incarnations. No wonder they were awarded the prestigious Golden Chair award by the Swedish Association of Architects for Tio, cited as "consummately designed, with excellent sharpness of detailing and beauty of line."

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the daring one of all? With Thomas E.'s Fading Mirror, reflections seem to appear somewhere between this and another world. The smoky effect ringing this mirror is only the latest exploration in gradation by this young Dutch product and interior designer, who goes by the quirky abridged name (the intentional lack of space between Thomas and the first initial of his last name, Eurlings, and forgoing the rest of the letters.) Mesmerizing Indian motifs resonated for Bend designer Gaurav Nanda and his team as they selected textiles to scatter around their offices-area rugs, wall art and chair throws. So adapting an accumulation of those Indian patterns for their geometric shelf brackets was a natural progression. As with the rest of the Bend collection, the brackets are crafted in the L.A. studio from iron wire, a sustainably sourced and recyclable material. A proprietary technique to assure that all goods are fabricated to last begins with hand-executed spot-welding for strength and rigidity, followed by sandblasting and anti-rust treatment, and then a final finish with the tough powder coating. Available by the pair, they're a truly timeless fixture in any space.

Description

Harkening back to the Scandinavian heyday of 1970's lightning design, bell-shaped Ronde has a chameleon-like utility. Line up a few in the kitchen, place the smallest one on each side of the bed or use the larger model above the dining table. Though mostly directed downward, light also spreads out from the open top of the shade to cast atmospheric illumination all around. Ronde Pendant

Description

Solo or in a group (mix with the larger version, also at A+R), the sturdy Around Coffee Table strikes a balance between the honesty of Scandinavian design tradition and a charmingly modern flair. The distinct silhouette is realized by specific material application: the frame edge is ash plywood; tabletop made from plywood and legs are solid ash. Designer Thomas Bentzen sought a style that was both friendly and graceful; we'll add joyful to the mix with the addition of the pop of yellow available as an option. A former designer at the celebrated Louise Campell Studio, Thomas set out on his own in 2010 as well as co-founded the design collective Remove. He realized thee Around Coffee Duo for Danish brand Muuto.

Description

The traditional technique that uses a lathe to shape wood—known as woodturning—is part of the fabrication of the slender, solid oak legs that hold up the round plank top. The legs also echo the angle of the front legs of its companion chair in the In Between series by Sami Kallio. It's "so simple," remarks Martin Kornbek Hansen, founder of &Tradition, which produces the collection in Denmark, "it exudes beauty. Sami's approach couples old school craft and modern considerations: compression molding and innovative veneer techniques are also part of the production process; and the table comes disassembled as a flat pack, addressing both environmental sensitivities and ease of transport. Like its rectangular sibling, the round version is available in two sizes.
