"I photographed this beautiful flower on the Bibulman track in Western Australia," says David Trubridge of this spin on his ball-shaped lamps based on the geometric polyhedron structure. A love for earth drove the construction, flatpacked to reduce freight and packing resources. Identical pieces make home assembly a snap. The celebrated designing craftsman ended up in his adopted home of New Zealand after he, his wife and their two sons sold everything and set off on a yacht for a world adventure. It culminated in 1985 when they decided to remain there. While an artist-in-residence at Hawkes Bay Polytechnic (now EIT), he built a house and suddenly found himself with further commissions. Before realizing homes, lamps and furniture, David left Newcastle University in 1972 with a degree in Naval architecture. His work has appeared in countless museums, including the Victoria & Albert and the Pompidou Centre. That barely scratches the surface of his fascinating story and work ethos.

Parison Pendant Light

Description

A ray of light to a happy, colorful future? The late, great Verner Panton believed in this possibility, and designed with this in mind. The visionary Dane was the first to do inflatable furniture, cardboard houses and single-form, injection-molded plastic chairs—and all with an optimistic nod. Those chairs appeared in Stanley Kubrick's 1968 masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey; the same year experienced revolutions in the streets of Paris, Rome and the U.S. celebrating change by a generation fueled on Flower Power and a new outlook on the world. Verner marked it all the next year with the FlowerPot collection of table and pendant lights. Spherical, bold and modern, they are as fresh looking now as they were in 1969. No wonder Copenhagen house &Tradition decided to reissue them. They also team amazingly well with the Topan Pendants Verner created a decade earlier and also available at A+R.

Loveseat expands on the gloriously primal pleasures of Floris Schoonderbeek's wood-burning Dutchtub—with ergonomically conceived space for 2 people to relax with their legs fully stretched out. Heated by the fire basket via a superior-grade stainless-steel coil, the water flows into the tub from the top of the coil and naturally circulates out again to the bottom coil. Regulate the temperature by simply exposing fewer coils to the heat of the fire to cool or retain more heat by covering them with the wok, which also makes use of the burning wood for cooking. Handcrafted in a sturdy but lightweight polyester, the tub is easily filled with water by connecting a garden hose to its turbo valve and drains readily from a bottom plug.
