Do you love Lucy? If you're more of an Ethel, designer Gaurav Nanda has a version for you, too (as do we here on this site!). These dining chairs are part of the Bend collection by the Los Angeles-based Gaurav, who's managed to make wire chairs that are actually comfortable to sit in for a long while. Each piece is machine-molded and undergoes upwards of 400 handmade spot-welds—a process Gaurav refers to as "bending." Each bend is carefully arranged to ensure structural strength. The angles of the back, the curves of the seat and the closeness of the wires are placed a quarter inch apart for comfort and utility. Gaurav grew up in the Detroit suburbs and even spent part of his design career at General Motors. For this collection, he draws pattern inspiration from his childhood: the intricate macram é his mother made; string art Spirograph drawing sets. (He was also a part of the design and conception of Clocky with his sister Gauri.) What's more, the collection is made of an iron that can be repeatedly recycled, and all pieces are sandblasted, then pre-treated with anti-rust zinc primer and powder coated for extended life right in Gaurav's L.A. studio.

Offered at either seated or standing/stool height, the splayed leg configuration allows for greater seating capacity. The tabletop version in rich Iroko wood allows it to be situated indoors or out or choose the black or white marble model to luxe-up an interior. Available in crisp black or white, the steel base is finished with a durable cataphoretic coating to stand up to both weather elements and the demands of everyday use. To wit, the Marino sofa and chair are finished with environmentally friendly water-based satin lacquer or 7 colorways of paint, including black or white. Dylan Freeth, a member of the Ercol design studio since 2011, considered every detail down to the 8 textured fabric options. The British-born Dylan took the Design Guild Award in 2014 for his Romana Sideboard for Ercol, and his Marino series is no doubt destined to top the heritage house's classics.

Asplund's handsomely tall storage cabinet comes with clear glass doors for hiding clutter or making a display of things. Considered a Swedish design classic, Thomas Sandell and Jonas Bohlin's elegantly simple Snow E  was first unveiled in 1994 with its characteristic cutout handles that add both a decorative element and the ease of a comfortable grip. In a choice of select Nordic hues, the cabinet is made of lacquered MDF and has a contrasting natural birch base. It's hand-assembled and made to order in the small town of Tibro in southern Sweden, known for its furniture-making tradition, and meant to last for generations. Assuredly functional on its own, the unit also mixes with other companion Snow pieces; affixing it to the wall is recommended.

Description

Long a “grail” for collectors, &Tradition reissues architect Viggo Boesen’s 1938 Little Petra. Though few of this coveted lounge chair were produced originally, the chair is a prime example of “funkis,” a Scandinavian take on functionalism and purpose in design. Wood legs in white oiled oak or walnut pair organically with luxe sheepskin or wool upholstery. Named after Viggo’s mother-in-law, Little Petra is smallish in scale but provides surprisingly roomy comfort, making it as perfect in a bedroom as salon. Pair it with the Little Petra ATD1 Pouf for added comfort.
