Description

This well-proportioned round table in 2 sizes is ideal in a dining or conference room, thanks, in part, to a powder-coated framework with slender supports positioned to maximize legroom for both chairs and users. It's an exercise in minimalism envisioned by Bjarne Hansen, founder of the Danish design house Menu, and attestation that the Snaregade literally evolved from the top down. Bjarne tapped his frequent collaborators at Norm.Architects to create the sparest of tables, as a one-off. But Norm also found favor with it, not only including several in their own studio but naming it after the Copenhagen street where their studio is located. A collection was born. Along with its elongated oval and rectangular siblings, the Snaregade series epitomizes everything that is Danish design.

"Showstopper" might be an overused word these days but there's no denying that these dazzling tables crafted from artisanal Venetian glass fills the bill. Since the 1970s, Italian brand Miniforms has been experimenting with mouth-blown Murano glass and now it forms the base of the sculptural tables in luminescent amber, blue-gray or smoky gray. The archetypal club chair takes a new direction with the U Turn, a handsome update, generously scaled despite its modest footprint. The streamlined form begins with an internal steel frame and injection-molded foam, upholstered with minimum seams, in part, thanks to the zipper spine up the backside. Distinctive undercut base provides foot space for greater ease when getting out of the chair, and the swivel rotates 360 degrees (also available with a self-return option). U Turn Swivel Chair

Description

Sebastian Herkner's "balloon full of light" hovers elegantly atop a desk or sideboard. Each hand-blown glass "balloon" bears the characteristic tiny bubbles, streaks and variations one would expect from an individually crafted piece. The powder-coated steel base structure references the renowned photo series of industrial water towers by German couple Bernd and Hilla Becher. The pair dubbed them "anonymous sculptures." Yet Sebastian's design is hardly nondescript. His visually striking lamp series is achieved with rising German brand Pulpo, which makes a point of honoring the tradition of artisan craftsmanship within it modern point of view.

The London-based Lee combines decorative aesthetics with industrial influences in this standout object of thoughtful, innovative design.
