Even with a small armrest for added ease, this Lillium variation still slides easily underneath the table. Design studio Bjarke Ingels Group took the idea of a slatted outdoor chair that lets rainwater drain off from seeing an old disassembled schnapps barrel. The chair's X-shaped metal frame provides stability while also allowing for a bit of comfortable "give" when seated. Fashioned in solid FSC-certified teak and stainless steel to stand up to the elements, the untreated wood seating develops a prized grey patina over time.

The warmth of solid wood and a choice of resonant finishes bring an added dimension to Japanese studio Nendo's stool-cum-conversation piece. In this striking Tam Tam variation, the central shade is surrounded by 5 similar satellites, which can each swivel 360 degrees to face downward, sideways or upward to reflect off the ceiling. Working with Barcelona-based Marset, the Berlin-based designer Fabien Dumas devised the kinetic fixture that comes in an array of color combinations to set off the center light in black or off-white. Description

A trophy head that animal lovers won't growl at. Bend designer Gaurav Nanda has transformed the organic into a mathematical, digitally rendered form with this trophy head that can be used as graphic element or functional hook for bags, coats or towels. "The shapes may look simple," he notes, "but in actuality they are created with bends and angles that are complex formulas." We also think these trophy heads—including the Gazelle and Longhorn, also on our site—are a kick. Like all Bend furniture and pieces, these are sandblasted, then pre-treated with anti-rust zinc primer and powder coated for extended life right in Gaurav's L.A. studio. It all starts with a machine-molded frame that undergoes countless handmade spot-welds—a process Gaurav refers to as "bending."
