Poltrona Two Seat Sofa / Loveseat

Born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, Jules Leleu succeeded his father in the family painting business at the age of 26. With his brother, he began work in the Decorating field. Not until Jules Leleu was in his mid-30s did he start to specialize in furniture design. By 1925 Leleu had his own gallery in Paris, and that same year he exhibited at the Exposition Industrielle et Arts Decoratifs. Among his more famous architectural works are several different French embassies, and the Grand Salon of the Ambassadors at the Society of Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. Similar to other Art Deco Designers of this period, Jules Leleu designed many different furnishings for lavish steamships. Jules Leleu died in 1961.
Seen by some critics as a designer overly-inspired by Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann (1879-1933), Leleu eventually developed an elegant and refined design language of his own that distinguished him from his contemporaries. The Jules Leleu armchair is the new edition of one of the most suggestive and original works by Leleu, who liked it to the point of using it several times in Marcel L'Herbier's film "La Parum del la Dame en Noir" in 1931 and in the "Trouville" apartment on the liner "Normandie" in 1935.

Vigilius Two Seat Sofa By Driade

The Artifort Diva 2 Seat Sofa is designed by Karel Boonzaaijer and Dick Spierenburg.
Their starting point was the creation of seating with natural and playful lines in combination with optimal physical and visual comfort. The light slopes change to fluent round shapes, giving the sofa a very friendly and inviting signature. The balance between form and proportion make the Artifort Diva Sofa, contrary to the generous seating comfort, a compact presence. Applicable in small and big spaces, it is a balanced and surprising design.  It is closely related to the image and character of the Artifort collection.
The Diva Sofa is available in a 2 seat and 2.5 seat format. The base of the Diva Chair is in chrome.

The Elisa Two Seat Sofa by Driade was designed by Enzo Mari in 1971.  The re-edition of the design by Driade was launched at Salone Del Mobile, Milan 2015.
The soft and inviting Elisa Sofa makes the series a favorite for lounge areas.  The steel rod base gives the Sofa a floating look while allowing light to flow through an environment.

Elisa Two Seat Sofa By Driade

Le Corbusier designed the original Petite Lounge Chair (LC2) collection based on the human scale. A strong advocate of Modernism, Le Corbusier created a range of Petite Lounge Chairs (LC2) that express his ideas with great sophistication.
Mrs. Heidi Weber of Zurich first put the Le Corbusier Petite Lounge collection into production in 1959. With his approval, she changed the appearance of this chair and added this loveseat. She removed the spring mechanism and used fabricating methods which allowed the frame to be chromed. She also gave the cushions a more formal, tailored look. Her contribution to the re-design of the collection was instrumental in the commercial success of the collection.
In 1922, Le Corbusier turned his attention to the growing problem of slums in Paris.  His desire to was to create an efficient way to house the masses in a way that would raise their quality life.  The Immeubles Villas design of multi-family urban housing would be a demonstration of Le Corbusier’s solution.  The multi-story design included cell style housing (perhaps based on the Carthusian monastery cells monks in which lived that he had seen in his travels through Europe).
Shortly after the presentation of the Immeubles Villa, Le Corbusier presented his idea of a city for 3 million inhabitants or the “Contemporary City”.  Instead of a few blocks of housing, a massive city would be planned around a highly efficient transportation hub.  Skyscrapers of cell housing were set within areas of rectangular parks.  At this time it was groundbreaking vision, but one that would become reality in parts of the world, such as Eastern Europe.

Le Corbusier Petite Loveseat (lc2)

Eero Saarinen designed this loveseat in the 1950s, as a part of a seating series for the lobbies of The General Motors Technology Center in Warren, Michigan. Veering away from his usual inspiration, organic elements, he looked to the revolutionary design of a stock car for inspiration. He specifically focused on the stock car seat, which was known for not only its comfort but also its superb construction and upholstery.
To accurately represent the design of the stock car seat Eero Saarinen first conquered the difficulty of obtaining a perfectly horizontal surface through the seat and armrests. Also, Saarinen leaning away from fiberglass, the original material for the frame of a stock car seat, had to devise a method of having the leather adhere perfectly to the frame for an aerodynamic look. Lastly, the importance of the seat having a slight angle to the rear so that the person lounging would have the same feeling of sitting back into the driver's seat of a stock car.
To this day some of the original lounge series still appears in the lobbies of General Motor Headquarters, also a prototype of this chair appears in the M.O.M.A. These reproductions are the first to be manufactured since the original design and pieces back in the 1950s.

Eero Saarinen General Motors Loveseat

Josef Hoffmann was born in Austria in 1870. At the age of 17, Josef Hoffmann started studying classic architecture in Brunn. From there he studied architecture under Karl Freiherr von Hasenauer at the Academy of Fine arts in Vienna. At that time, von Hasenauer was one of Europe's most popular architects. After von Hasenauer's death, Otto Wagner, Europe's most famous 19th-century architect took over the class. Josef Hoffmann went onto work for Wagner later in his career. Two of Hoffmann's enduring furniture designs, the Hoffmann Cubus and Hoffmann Velvet Chair, have gone onto to be very popular into the 21st century.
The Josef Hoffmann Velvet Armchair was developed in 1911 for the "House Kohler." Josef Hoffmann based the Velvet Armchair design off of a previous design from the Palais Stoclet's vestibule in Brussels (1905-1911), and this piece represents an iteration of that model. The Velvet Loveseat we see here differs from that model primarily in how Josef Hoffmann was more liberal in his use of decorative border, in this case, the striped piping. This design also includes the derivations of the armchair and three seat sofa, as you see here.

ARTLESS LRG Sofas are our interpretation of what contemporary seating should be.  We liked the Italian sofas but they seemed to slick. We designed the LRG and knew a solid wood wrap around base was a must. ARTLESS designs with all four sides in mind, and we needed a sofa with a compelling back and wood cradles the sofa so nicely. The LRG is full of comfort with its down proof ticking cushion and pillows, we find it immersive. While the back and sides create a striking figure.
All ARTLESS LRG individually bench built in Los Angeles. Kiln-dried hardwood frame with double dowel joinery and corner blocks, sinuous wire springs; down proof ticking with Trillium (down alternative).
