The Le Corbusier Adjustable Height Dining Table (LC6) is one of many of his designs that first exhibited at the Salon D' Automne in 1929. The Le Corbusier Dining Table was designed in 1928 for the exhibition as part of the furnishing of the "Equipement interieur d'une habitation."
The Le Corbusier Dining Table LC6 was constructed with an elliptical tube which was used in airplane construction. It is obvious that the material was chosen not merely for form, but for its symbolic association with the epitome of the modern age.
Very little is known of the origins of this table. According to Heidi Weber, Le Corbusier made it clear in 1959 that the table no longer interested him. Perhaps, in 1928 the table was a pretext for using a futuristic material and, perhaps, the material lost its fascination when it ceased to be used to build airplanes. At any rate, attention was generally not given to the clever use of unusual materials. The table was put into production by Thonet in 1929. This was probably due to the fact that the tube was relatively difficult to obtain and polish. In addition, the design was very advanced for its time and one can understand how Thonet did not anticipate a commercial success with the general public from such a radically new design statement.
The Le Corbusier LC6 Dining Table also allows you to adjust the height of the top for added flexibility in its use. The structure is constructed of an elliptical matte black metal base with four adjustable pilotis. Because of the weight of the glass top, we recommend a local source for the glass. Customers have also used stone and wood to further customize this classic table.

The No. 763 Bentwood Chair was first shown in Michael Thonet's 1928 Catalogue.  Since that time, the 763 has been widely used in residential and contract applications.
In the 1840s Michael Thonet began experimenting with furniture made by bending wood that had been steamed into a soft and pliable state. Over the next 20 years, Michael Thonet and his sons developed the processes and machines that would allow them to build bentwood furniture in unprecedented quantities. It was in this time period that he developed what has become thought of as the "traditional" Michael Thonet designed bentwood chair: one featuring a backrest and back legs made from a single piece, a rounded cane or laminated seat, and front legs. In his effort to reduce the number of pieces used in building chairs, he had to connect the main elements that existed on different planes.  This could only be achieved by bending the beechwood.
Michael Thonet's further experimentation with bending wood yielded amazing results.  By the 1860s, Michael Thonet's bentwood styles had become mainstream, and he was on his way to creating a catalog of bentwood chairs yet to be rivaled.

In 1929 Mies van der Rohe designed the German Pavilion for the International Exposition in Barcelona, Spain. In it contained what was to become one of interior design's most famous modern classic chairs, the Pavilion Chair. Using flat steel and a cantilever scissor form structure, the chair has a fairly rigid structure.
Mies van der Rohe's original Pavilion chair used a frame of chromium-plated steel strips with horsehair cushions resting on thick belt leather straps. The steel strip design and 'x' joint had to be welded and polished by hand in a laborious operation. The Pavilion chair's intricate leather work used square tiles that were sewn together, then piped and buttoned.
Our Pavilion Chair is a careful reproduction based on an exhaustive study of the original chair.  Size, shape, and angles are reproduced in an exacting fashion.  Materials and workmanship are 100% Italian ensuring the finest in fit and finish.  Each square of the upholstery is sewn giving the cushion the natural tufting sought after by Mies van der Rohe. Two of Josef Hoffmann's designs, the Hoffmann Cubus and Hoffmann Velvet Chair, have gone onto to be very popular into the 21st century. Josef Hoffmann's ability to combine classic design principles to these Modern pieces have made these pieces true modern classics. The Josef Hoffmann Velvet Armchair was developed in 1911 for the "House Kohler." Josef Hoffmann based the Velvet Armchair design off of a previous design from the Palais Stoclet's vestibule in Brussels (1905-1911) and this piece represents an iteration of that model. The Velvet Armchair we see here differs from that model primarily in how Josef Hoffmann was more liberal in his use of decorative border, in this case, the striped piping.

Perhaps the most famous piece from Saarinen's Pedestal Series is the Saarinen Tulip Table. Designed between 1955 and 1957, the Saarinen Table envelopes the design philosophy behind one of the century's greatest American architects. The Mies van der Rohe Tugendhat Coffee Table was originally named the "Dessau table" and later gained true recognition and identity at the Tugendhat house in Brno in 1930.  It was part of a group of furniture that Mies designed for this home.
One of Mies van der Rohe’s most notable architectural designs was the German Pavilion for the Barcelona World’s Fair (1929).  The ceremonial hall, furniture, and sculptures were masterpieces that were reconstructed in 1986.  The special design approach of the hall is notable and seen in future Mies designs.  The hall has a little separation by walls, rather by vertical dividing elements such as glass or wood.  Mies has been quoted as saying “...the house is unit.  Not a series of rooms side by side and covered by a roof, but an itinerary that leads from one room to another keeping with the occupants’ way of life.”
Early mass-production versions of the table were completed with a glass or rosewood top.

The No. 14 Bentwood Chair was originally created in Michael Thonet's Boppard, Germany workshop in 1855. Michael Thonet No. 14 Bentwood Chair By Ton

This bookcase represents one of the most anomalous designs in Breuer's linguistic research. The tubular steel is discontinuous and touches the ground with two molded ends, cut and closed with a disk surmounting the section. Designed between 1930 and 1931, it was originally produced in Switzerland in 1930 and sold in Zurich and Basel in the modern furniture stores owned by Sigfried Gideon, Werner Moser, and Rudolf Graber. In 1933 it was included in the collection designed by Breuer for Wohnbedarf.
Marcel Breuer is considered one of the fathers of Modernism. During his career, he was an architect, teacher and furniture designer. As a student and teacher at the Bauhaus School, Breuer focused on the integration of technology, materials, and art. Breuer is famous for a number of furniture designs, though perhaps no chair design is more famous than his Wassily Chair. Designed in 1925, the Wassily chair was the first bent-tubular steel-framed chair. The chair is very simple in form, yet quite comfortable and exemplary in its use of the Bauhaus design philosophy. In the 1930s, Breuer fled from Germany to England and eventually came to the United States where he taught with Walter Gropius at Harvard's School of Architecture.

Le Corbusier's Petite Lounge Chair (LC2) is a smaller version of the famous Grand Confort Lounge Chair (LC3) design from 1929. Born Charles Edouard Jeanneret, Corbusier is undoubtedly considered to be the most important Modernist chair designer in France. A spirited advocate of Modernism, Le Corbusier created a range of chairs that expressed his ideas with great sophistication.
Mrs. Heidi Weber of Zurich first put the Le Corbusier collection into production in 1959. With his approval, she changed the appearance of the Petite Lounge Chair (LC2). She removed the spring mechanism and used fabricating methods which allowed the frame to be chromed. She also gave the cushions a more formal, tailored look. Her contribution to the re-design of the collection was instrumental in the commercial success of the Le Corbusier Petite Lounge Chair (LC2), and the entire collection.
Le Corbusier adopted his name in 1920 from his given name Charles-Edouard Jeanneret.  It was his endeavor to show that anyone could reinvent themselves.  Additionally, it was vogue at the time in Paris to identify oneself with a single word.

The year was 1958.  The designer was Eero Saarinen.  The Collection: The Single Pedestal Furniture Series.  Who could have imagined at the time how this 47-year-old Finn would change the world of interior design forever.  Combining a cast aluminum base with either plastic, marble or a wood veneer top, Saarinen launched this series in New York and received a fantastic reception.  Over 50 years later, the Saarinen Tables from the Pedestal Series continue to be used by designers and design enthusiasts for a variety of applications.

Peter Keler was a student at the Bauhaus in Weimar, Germany. From 1919 to 1923 he studied mural painting with Wassily Kandinsky (eventually he became Kandinsky's assistant). This simple cradle, with its blue circle, yellow triangle, and red square, shows these influences. After 1945, he was a professor at the College of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Weimar (today Bauhaus) for education and exhibition design. Works by Peter Keler are the Bauhaus Museum and Weimar Bauhaus Archive in Berlin.

The No. 30 Bentwood Chair, designed by August Thonet, became popular as part of a 1920s bentwood revival as architects Le Corbusier and Mart Stam used it in their buildings and environments. The simple and unadorned bentwood design appealed to them, as did the "industrial" nature of the chair. Modernist designers saw it as a product of rigorous functionalism, an item whose design was determined by its material and the method used to produce it. Le Corbusier used the No. 30 bentwood chairs in his commissions as dining or desk seating as early as 1922, as well as in his Pavilion at the 1925 Paris Exposition of Decorative Arts.
Concerning his choice of the bentwood chair, Corbusier wrote, "We have introduced the humble Thonet chair of steamed wood, certainly the most common of chairs.  We believe this chair, whose millions of representatives are used on the Continent and in the two Americas, possesses nobility." In subsequent commissions, Corbusier continued to use Michael Thonet and August Thonet designed bentwood pieces until more suitable tubular steel chairs were produced by the company.
It is also notable that in the 1927 Deutsche Werkbund exhibition (an exhibition of 33 housing units, directed by Mies Van der Rohe, and the first gathering of architects working in the new International Style), half of the 16 architects used Michael Thonet's designed bentwood chairs. The most popular chair? The August Thonet designed B9 Bentwood Armchair.

The Michael Thonet No. 73 Bentwood Stool can trace its origins back to the mid-1800s.  This reproduction of the bentwood stool uses the traditional bentwood styles that one commonly associates with the designs of Michael Thonet.
Though the invention of the bentwood technique should be attributed to the American Samuel Gragg, it was Michael Thonet that experimented with the technique to an extreme level and made the bentwood chair one of the great commercial successes of all time.  An infatuation with reducing the number of pieces used in the construction of furniture, Michael Thonet created techniques of bending wood on multiple planes.  The techniques led to the development of phenomenal chair successes such as the legendary A14 and A18/14 bentwood chairs.

Walter Gropius was best known as the head of the Dessau Bauhaus. This Gropius three seat sofa, the F 51/3, is one of a handful of furniture designs for which he was responsible. It maintains the look and feel of many of the items that came from the Bauhaus and the era of revolutionary designs. This Gropius three seat sofa has been reproduced to exacting detail by the German factory Tecta.
Walter Gropius is widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of "modern" architecture. With the help of the English architect Maxwell Fry, Gropius was able to get out of Germany in 1934, on the pretext of making a temporary visit to Britain. Thus he escaped the rising antisemitism in Germany. He lived and worked in Britain, as part of the Isokon group with Fry and others until moving to the United States in 1937.

The Hideout Bentwood Lounge Chair was designed by the Swedish design trio Front.  This unique lounge chair combines comfort and design sophistication, resulting in an original renewal of the stylistic features of the GTV brand.
The Hideout Bentwood Lounge Chair has a square steam-bent solid beech structure and is enriched by a large and comfortable seat which is upholstered like the central part of the backrest. A wide embrace, ascending upwards with woven cane sides. The rounded profile of the armrests protrudes elegantly over the seat. The result is that the Hideout provides an enveloping and intimate space.

Michael Thonet's company designed the No 811 Bentwood Stool in the 1920s. Sometimes also called the "Prague chair" the No. 811 Bentwood Chair is often attributed to Josef Hoffmann, but is more likely the design of Josef Frank. The A811 bentwood chair was first introduced as the A64F and had a different version of front legs than later versions.  The No. 811 Bentwood cChair is also one of the first versions of bentwood chairs to be offered in a variety of colored finishes that were not previously offered.  The No. 811 Bentwood Chair was one of the company's most popular 20th-century designs and is still widely used by designers worldwide.
In the 1840s Michael Thonet began experimenting with bentwood furniture made by bending wood that had been steamed into a soft and pliable state. Over the next 20 years, Michael Thonet and his sons developed the processes and machines that would allow them to build bentwood furniture in unprecedented quantities. It was in this time period that he developed what has become thought of as the "traditional" Michael Thonet designed bentwood chair: one featuring a backrest and back legs made from a single piece, a rounded cane or laminated seat, and front legs. In his effort to reduce the number of pieces used in building bentwood chairs, he had to connect the main elements that existed on different planes.  This could only be achieved by bending wood.  Michael Thonet's further experimentation with bending wood yielded amazing results.  By the 1850s, Michael Thonet's bentwood styles had become mainstream, and he was on his way to creating a catalog of bentwood chairs yet to be rivaled.
