Louis Poulsen is launching a new series of lamps with a colorful difference – a series created in cooperation with the Swedish designer and graphic artist Clara von Zweigbergk.

“I don’t mind at all if – sitting in their kitchens – people look up and start thinking of hot-air balloons and carousels,” says Clara von Zweigbergk when asked to describe her new lamp series.

Named CIRQUE, the series was developed in cooperation with Louis Poulsen and inspired by a trip to Tivoli in Copenhagen. Tivoli is full of whirls and twirls – carousels, cotton candy makers and wheels of fortune. When an object spins very fast, colors merge to become horizontal bands of color. These inspirations resulted in a vibrant design uniting unconventional colors and forms in a series of truly innovative lamps. They which will add both edge and charisma to their surroundings – both in daylight and when lit.

The new lamp series is equally suited for restaurants and bars, as well as kitchens and dining rooms. A diffuse, downward light is reflected from the matte white inside of the lamp and is glare-free when hung at normal height.

Los Angeles based designer Stephen Kenn has long been inspired by clean and simple design aesthetics and the stories inherent in vintage military fabrics. In 2011 he combined those two loves by creating The Inheritance Collection. The collection was the result of an exploration of how furniture is constructed, and then a desire to distill the process down to the barest bones. Likening the process of furniture construction to the way the human body is constructed, the frame, belts, and cushions became the bones, muscles, and skin of each piece.
A custom version of our Inheritance Collection sofa originally designed for the Todd Snyder x Champion City Gym shop in New York. The steel welded frame is oxidized black, with grey webbing, cognac brown leather, and Faribault Woolen Mill's Foot Soldier blanket cushion covers. Flat-packed upholstered lounge furniture sounds like a crazy idea. Hans Hornemann considered it a requirement that the function did not involve any compromise with the design. Ace is constructed from molded plywood, covered with molded foam for the highest possible comfort. The back is flexible, which gives it a springy feeling, ensuring great sitting comfort. In order to reach the goal of this ambitious project, Normann Copenhagen has specially developed production tools, brackets, screws, legs and fabrics.
Ace combines intelligent engineering with an elegant visual impression. The lounge chair is upholstered in the front, rear and underneath, with refined piping around the seat and back. The inviting volume of the upholstery is accentuated by the round and soft design. A high, backward sloping back and angled legs give the chair a nonchalant expression. In a delicate proportional balance between weight and lightness, Ace compellingly conquers a room with its relaxed, yet stylish, attitude.
Ace is delivered in two attractive fabrics, a vibrant velour and a flecked wool textile, as well as soft, exclusive leather. The woolen textile, “Nist”, has been developed in-house by Normann Copenhagen to complete the characteristic visual style. Nist is manufactured using an nontraditional weaving technique and contains 52 percent linen, which produces an attractive natural flecking of the fabric. The velour brings Ace a seductive elegance, while Nist gives the chair a more stringent, masculine look.

Ace has legs in stained beech, in the same color tones as the fabrics for a uniform expression. The stain allows the wood’s natural flame patterns to shine through and adds a discrete play to the monochrome color universe consisting of five inviting shades.

The Fortis wall sconce is a great example of the collaborative design process. The initial concept from the New York based Desiron was refined over many iterations, and Cerno then worked with the local Southern California Artisan glass company, Siemon & Salazar, to achieve a very specific bubbled glass lens that diffuses the light. It is a strong and sophisticated display of three elements: a piece of metal, a piece of wood, and a piece of glass all beautifully showcased in light.
