A truly unique Earl Grey loose leaf tea (sometimes written as Earl Gray) from the ancient Tregothnan Estate in Cornwall, a private botanical garden established in 1335, with a singular micro climate.

English Earl Grey

A Lapsang loose leaf tea unlike any other. Made using traditional methods, the fresh leaf is smoked over pine wood. Singularly rich and profoundly delicious.
Made to exacting, traditional methods this tea is grown in the Wuyi Mountains on the northern border of Fujian, and carefully smoked over pinewood.  Only wood that's been stripped of bark is used, allowing the tea to take on a subtle smokiness without any heavy tarry notes.  It has the aroma of an autumn bonfire rather than the rapacious punch of our Tarry Lapsang Souchong.

Rare Lapsang Souchong

This dark loose leaf tea (also known as Houjicha) started life as a green loose leaf tea – but has been skilfully roasted to turn late pick Sencha into something extremely special.
Some of the catechins and caffeine are lost in this roasting, softening the tea in every way. The flavour is very soft and smooth, lacking astringency and tannin.
It still has caffeine, but it's lower than green tea making it a good tea for the evening, great with and after dinner. It has a soothing yet rather stimulating effect.

Japanese Hojicha Roasted Green Tea

Longjing* (also known as Dragon Well), this is the most succulent and fragrant of green China Loose Leaf Teas. Picked in the early spring before the first rains, it has a fresh sweetness.

Chinese Longjing Green Tea

This is a blend of black loose leaf teas to create a Lapsang Souchong that is both deep and smoky but silky and light.
It lies between the rich texture and heady aroma of our Tarry Lapsang and the elegant subtleties of our Rare Lapsang Souchong.
It can be enjoyed with or without milk.

Mild Lapsang Souchong

A painstakingly pan fired green loose leaf tea from Fanjing Mountain in the Guizhou Province in Southwestern China.

Rare Afternoon Tea

A top grade organic matcha loose leaf tea, sourced from Wahoken garden, in Kagoshima Prefecture.
Crafted from just the tender first flush of the Yutakamidori cultivar.
Made from precious Tencha - shade grown green tea, the leaf is de-veined and de-stemmed and ground using traditional ceramic stones to a fine powder. This meticulous crafting results in a tea of great depth and intensity.
This is a ceremonial grade matcha for whisking; it can also be enjoyed as an iced tea or added to cold pressed juice and smoothies. We recommend whisking to a smooth paste with a little cold water first and then diluting for an iced tea or to add to your juice. Cold extraction takes about 1 hour, use 4-5g per litre of cold water.

Every now and then, somebody comes to our Tasting Room with something quite remarkable. The Waikato Black Loose Leaf Tea was one of those memorable occasions. We had to add it to our collection and share it with you.

This beautiful white teapot reflects the delicacy and purity of our White Silver Tip tea. It is hand made using fine bone china and includes a built-in gate to hold back the loose tea leaves - it will filter out everything but finer cut loose leaf teas (such as Speedy, Earl Grey & Lost Malawi).  To guarantee no finer leaves ending up in your cup, we have our Rare Tea Overcup Strainer.

Handmade British stoneware tasting cup by ceramicist Charlie Collier. Pair with the matching Charlie Collier Gaiwan for a perfect tasting combination.
All items are stoneware with a celadon glaze (satin finish with some light crazing), fired to 1280°C in a gas fired kiln. Dishwasher and microwave proof - but we'd always recommend to wash and rinse by hand.

We like a good resolution, particularly when it does the world some good - and our glass flask for loose leaf tea on the go is just the ticket.
Featuring extra-tough double-walled borosilicate glass (BPA free) to keep your tea at the right temperature for longer, a stainless steel filter that can be removed for easy filling, and to top it off (sorry) a sustainable bamboo lid.
It's equally at home with hot or cold infusions and will help keep your tea at the correct temperature whilst you're working your way through your rituals.

Bamboo Matcha whisk - or Chasen - handmade in Shizuoka, Japan. The perfect implement to achieve gloriously smooth and foamy Matcha.This Matcha whisk - or Chasen - is made by hand from a single piece of bamboo, in Shizuoka, Japan.
It is of the highest quality, to effectively whisk our ceremonial grade Japanese Matcha into beautiful, frothy green goodness.
You can tell the quality of a Chasen by the number of prongs it possesses - ours has 80 to be precise, intricately made out of the one piece of wood.
Use your Chashaku to measure 2 scoops of Matcha into a Matcha bowl or tea bowl, add 100ml of water at 70°C and carefully whisk the tea in a figure-of-eight motion, ensuring smooth and frothy tea.
Wash by gently rinsing under warm water and leave to dry standing upright.
