Our jar candles are designed with a simple purpose in mind: provide a well designed, high quality, naturally fragranced candle at an affordable price. To start this series, we produced a trio of fragrances with notes ranging from woody and spicy to bright and citrusy. Plus, no need for unnecessary packaging. No box and no dust cover means less waste for landfills. After the candle burns out, reuse the jar as a planter, bathroom storage container, or think of your own use to give the container a second life. If you don't want to reuse the jar, please be responsible and recycle it.

Øresund is the strait between Denmark and Sweden. Inspired by a trip to Copenhagen, the cold north, and the long, dark Scandinavian Winter season, this fragrance evokes memories of huddling up inside of a cabin to stay warm. The scent is reminiscent of crackling wood, pine needles, and the sweet smell of the forest. Base notes of cedar and balsam fir are accented by light, fresh grapefruit, and the deep, earthy musk of ambrette seed to round everything out.

The Monhegan candle is inspired by a trip we took to a small island off the coast of Boothbay, Maine. An hour or so by boat out to sea, Monhegan served as a British fishing camp and trading post in the early 1600s. In this fragrance, deep, masculine and woody notes are accented by hints of caramelized pipe tobacco and leather.

About the Designer / Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm
-- With a Swedish mother and Danish father, Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm shows her Nordic roots in her designs through a minimalistic approach and strong combinations of materials like wood, leather and wool. Function is her starting point and dictates the idiom of her beautiful designs.

Proper usage and maintenance is vital for getting the most out of the valuable resources we have. Our designs are made to last for generations, but just like everything else, they need a little care to get there.
Oils Treated Oak Veneer
-- Origin Oak with the botanical name Quercus spp. grows in most temperate zones. Skagerak oak comes from European forests.
Why Oak is a sturdy and hardwearing type of wood. Furthermore, the Skagerak oak is FSC 100 % certified or FSC Mix certified. The selection of the wood is extremely careful and all processing is done by hand, so that only the best and most durable pieces of wood are used in production. Oak contains tannins which reduces bacterial growth in the wood. Cleaning and Maintenance Your new product comes with an oil treatment. For daily cleaning, use a damp cloth firmly wrung and be sure always to treat the entire surface evenly. The use of cleaning agents for daily cleaning is not recommended. Spills are to be removed immediately to minimize risk of lasting spots. Oil treated products are to be retreated 1-2 times per year, depending on the use, to keep the protective layer on the surface and maintain the aesthetic qualities from the oil. For future treatment, use a suitable oil treatment product and follow the enclosed instructions carefully. Oil treatments can be purchased on Skagerak.dk. Avoid contact of the oil with other materials to avoid spots and marks.
When retreating the surface, we recommend proceeding with consideration of the oak veneer on the table top. The first time the table is treated some of the wood fibres may rise and make the surface feel rough. If necessary lightly sand the surface with 220 grit sanding paper in the direction of the grain to achieve the best result. Always follow the specified safety instructions of the treatment product and use the recommended personal protective equipment. Lastly, you should remember to retighten the table’s mounting bolts from time to time. Note: Always use table mats or trivets when placing hot objects such as pots, pans and candle lights on the table.

The Vik fragrance is inspired by the cold north. In 2017, we took a trip to Iceland that would change us forever. The vast Icelandic landscape captivated our hearts and minds with its mossy fields, epic waterfalls, glaciers, and black sand beaches. Vik is a spicy, masculine, warm fragrance with scent notes of birch, oak moss, cardamom, and musk.

Our plant derived formula meets current FDA, CDC, and WHO recommendations for alcohol content, and also contains moisturizing aloe to keep your hands from drying out. We based the fragrance off our popular Cabin series with notes of sandalwood, cedar, and cardamom.

Aptos is a seaside community just outside of Santa Cruz, CA. Perched atop Monterey Bay, Aptos is home to the Forest of Nisene Marks with its giant redwoods and Douglas fir trees, and a stretch of coastline where forest cliffs drop off dramatically to the sea. Our Aptos fragrance blends forest, seaside flora, and warm spices together to evoke memories of this maritime enclave that is so dear to our hearts.

A frequent collaborator with Norden, Cody Hudson ( @struggle_inc ) is a Chicago-based artist and partner at Land and Sea Department . We’re big fans of his designs — which pull from recognizable shapes and forms to create a body of abstract work. Resembling paper cutouts or layered collage, Hudson works in a variety of media ranging from sculpture to paintings to graphic pieces. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art , Chicago, V1 Gallery in Copenhagen and at fairs in New York, Basel, Los Angeles and Miami. Most recently, Hudson worked with Nike for their ‘Artist in Residency’ program, creating an exclusive and personal collection featuring his designs.
