In 1966 the Platner Collection captured the "decorative, gentle, graceful" shapes that were beginning to infiltrate the modern vocabulary. The pieces are created by welding hundreds of curved, nickel-plated steel rods to circular frames, simultaneously serving as structure and ornament. The Easy Chair, available in a range of upholstery options, demonstrates Platner's belief that there is room in modernism "for the kind of decorative, gentle, graceful design that appeared in a period style like Louis XV."

An extremely contemporary design, the Søborg chair bridges the contrast between industrial and handcrafted solutions, along with the textural properties of solid wood, plywood and steel. All compounded with a lightweight and solidly grounded aesthetic.

In 1948, Børge Mogensen participated in MoMA’s ”low-cost furniture” international design competition together with his friend Hans J. Wegner. With homes in Denmark serving as the inspiration for the exhibition, he conducted his first experiments with plywood shells.

Mogensen exhibited the first prototype for the Søborg Chair in 1950. His intention was to make a shell chair that could be produced with new machineries of the time. The rounded shaped seat and back in moulded plywood combined with a solid wood frame, reflected how Mogensen fused his international contact with traditional cabinet-makers’ solutions and his own functionalist design identity.

In 1952, Mogensen expanded the series with a steel framed chair. Working with steel was exception, rather than rule, in Mogensen’s work ethic, but the execution was typical of Mogensen. Adding details such as the slightly tapered legs, Mogensen successfully demonstrated the use of woodworking methodologies in steel, which means the Søborg chair has a visual expression that is less industrial and more crafted.

A true functionalist, Mogensen believed that furniture should encourage freedom of personality. With its discrete design, sturdy construction and generous width, the Søborg Chair expresses this perfectly in any environment… at home, in restaurants, in working areas or any socially engaging space.

Nelson was inspired by a set of silk-covered Swedish hanging lamps that he wanted to acquire for his office, but he found the price to be prohibitive. An ingenious and resourceful designer, he went on to create the first set of Bubble Lamps using a translucent white plastic spray. Nelson drew from elemental, organic shapes in making variations including sconces, table lamps and floor lamps.

Pendant includes a brushed, nickel-plated steel ceiling plate measuring 5.25" and a 6-foot cord. Product is UL-listed and rated for bulbs up to 150 watts. Bulb is not included.

Multi-lite Floor Lamp

Panthella Floor and Panthella Table were designed by Verner Panton in 1971 and remain one of his most popular light designs. The organic shapes are typical for a Panton design, as were the many strong colors the light was originally available in. Verner Panton wanted to create a light where both the foot and the shade served as a light reflector. The hemispherical shade reflects the light downwards, and the material used ensures that the majority of the light is softly diffused through the room. Today the lamp is only available in white.

The Panthella lamp shade is made of injected molded white opal acrylic with a white steel frame. The lamp housing and base is injected molded ABS plastic with a 156" white cord. In-line on/off switch provided. Bulb is not included. cULus listed.

Eldvarm steel is powder coated with paint from the company AkzoNobel, whose history started with Bofors forge in Sweden in 1646. The coating used is free of harmful substances for minimal environmental impact. All screws and details are made of brass, both for the elegance they add and also as a nod to traditional fireplace accessories, which were often made of solid brass.
