White Castle has been serving up their signature small, square hamburgers since 1921 when Walt Anderson teamed up with Billy Ingram to open and then expand on the brand.  The original sliders were so successful (and only 5 cents!), that a number of competitors opened up with similar names--White Fortress, White Turret, Blue Castle, Red Castle, and so on.  Despite that, the original White Castle has survived to this day and whenever you're looking for the home of the hamburger as we know it, be sure the sign says White Castle!
