The Volney Silver Plated Shaker

Throughout the 40s and 50s, riders in the Tour de France would use metal "bidons" to carry water during their ride. The most recognizable of these bidons was the Coloral, a fluted alloy bottle with a cork stopper and tooled cap. Not only just for water, the bidons were used for sugared milk to sustain endurance on long rides, or else for wine to celebrate victories. Despite enthusiasm for the brand, Coloral's production tapered off in the mid 1950s due to manufacturing pressures.
Today, the brand has been revived by cycling enthusiasts and modernized with food-grade brushed stainless steel, vacuum insulation, and updated sizing that allows it to fit in modern bottle cages. The reingineered 14 oz bottle is lightweight, compact, and sturdy, while keeping true to the aesthetics of the original design. This re-engineered Brown Betty Teapot is the result of a three-year research and development project by the award-winning British designer Ian McIntyre. Working with Cauldon Ceramics, McIntyre incorporated historical elements and patents from the 1920s such as the locking lid and non-drip spout while introducing new design elements like a loose leaf tea infuser.
