Born in New Jersey in 1964, Harry Allen received a Master’s Degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute. In 1993, he established Harry Allen Design, and since then, he has designed furniture, lighting, products and interiors for a wide variety of international clients. Harry’s work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art and the Brooklyn, Denver and Philadelphia Museums of Art. His awards include the Brooklyn Museum of Art’s Modernism/Young Designer Award and two Industrial Design Society of America IDEA Awards. Harry’s interest in art and innovation has led to some of the most intelligent products and interiors in the world today.

Bryce Wilner is a graphic designer and publisher from Roanoke, Virginia. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY where he works and teaches in the field of design, publishing, and new media.

The original emoji, Cairo was a typeface designed by Susan Kare in 1984 for the first Macintosh operating system. Taking its name from the hieroglyphics of ancient Egypt, each symbol was drawn by hand using the bitmap grid. A few notable symbols lived on into later operating systems including the cursor and watch.
Kare designed this woven blanket for the Jacquard loom, an early example of computer-controlled machinery, operated with punched cards and invented by Joseph Jacquard in 1801.

This is a puzzle within a puzzle, featuring photography by KangHee Kim. In this series of photos, Kim layers various photographs taken in New York City and around the U.S. to create new and imagined spaces, free from the restraints of reality. Nikolas Bentel is an artist and designer who creates products and performances that engage viewers to reimagine their everyday objects. Bentel grew up in a family of artists and designers in New York, which greatly influenced his understanding of design and its impact on daily life. A graduate of the Brown-RISD dual degree program, Bentel has shown at Paris Fashion Week, Milan Design Week, and the United Nations Climate Summit. Bentel has been commissioned by brands to create exciting, strange, and engaging experiences using alternate forms of product design, advertising and performance art. His studio is currently based out of New Inc, The New Museum’s art + design studio space on the Bowery.

Moon Chalk - Color Set

In 1946, Buckminster Fuller patented a map of Earth which presents geographic information without breaks in any of the continental contours, or any visible distortion of the relative shapes or sizes of the land masses. In 1954, the Dymaxion Projection as we know it today was hand drawn by architect, Shoji Sadao, the cartographer and collaborator behind the map. Designer Brendan Ravenhill has configured Fuller’s projection as a magnetic folding globe, a representation of Earth that easily transitions from flat to three dimensional. Fold it to form a geometric globe or unfold to reveal our flattened planet.
