PILAR stoneware is manufactured from clay, quartz and minerals such as calcite and is defined as a ceramic product. The stoneware is molded at very high temperatures using casting techniques. The high temperatures during the firing process make stoneware more stable than clay and less translucent than porcelain.

Designed by Richard Sapper the kettle 9091 in stainless steel was the first of Alessi's "designer boilers". To avoid the usual ansiogenic noise produced by the kettles, Sapper has given the 9091 a melodic whistle made of brass and consisting of two small vents in which the tuners that reproduce the notes mi and si are inserted.
