Truth be told, when we first started developing this style we were trying to bring a little class to the long John or base-layer category. Too often, interesting design, thoughtful details, and great construction are tossed out because it’s assumed no one sees your base layers, but as anyone who has grabbed lunch on the side of a mountain can attest, you see everyone’s base layers in the lodge or at aprés ski. With that in mind, we set out to create base layers that deserve to be seen. In short, you can do better than the long Johns your mom made you wear as a kid. When we finished our development, half our company couldn’t wait to layer the Embossed Sweater under their snow kit, while the other half plans to wear it on the daily as a thin, merino sweater. And like all things at AETHER, we started the process with an amazing material. We always make sure to source merino that has none of the itchiness one often finds with natural wool. Made from a super-fine, 100% merino-wool jersey knit, the Embossed Sweater has a subtle detail you may miss unless you look closely: The wearer’s left-sleeve bears a custom-knit AETHER logo. That’s about as “loud” as we get. There is also a rib knit at the collar, sleeve cuffs, and body hem. Thin and warm enough to be worn as your base layer, the Embossed Sweater was designed to be seen by others without excuses. Success.
