Before there were 3- layer, synthetic waterproof fabrics, outerwear was made from thick cotton canvas with a protective layer of wax for added water and wind protection, a process that worked for years before they figured out how to turn oil into fabric. At AETHER, we are often drawn to the classics of the past with an eye on updating them for the future. We don’t just remake, we improve and modernize. The Camber Jacket lives up to that goal. Made from 100% waxed-cotton shell that’s insulated with 800-fill-power goose down, the Camber has a worn-in, rugged aesthetic that changes and gets better over time. But that’s just what others see—for the wearer, we added a  beautiful, cotton-blend striped lining, as well as a rib knit at the interior of the collar and the inset of the sleeve cuffs for added warmth and comfort. Our obsession with details can also be seen in the vertical-quilting at the sleeve panel and soft brushed-tricot hand-pocket bags (because cold hands deserve a cozy place to hide). There is a zipper at the center front, a double-welt detail at the zippered hand pockets, and a welt-pocket detail at the wearer’s left chest pocket. There are also interior zippered pockets on both the right and left side so you can stash your wallet or keys. And if you need the jacket re-waxed for any reason, we will send you a wax tin to make sure this piece stays in exactly the condition you want it to. We call that great customer service.

Are you familiar with pre-baffled fabric? Neither were we when we started developing the Launch Jacket two-and-a-half years ago. The beauty is in the construction of the fabric at the mill level, to support the eventual 800-fill-power grey-goose-down insulation. The baffles that contain the down are woven into the fabric itself, so there is no need for exterior stitching, keeping the surface of the fabric completely smooth. This process also means down feathers will not leak through needle holes in the seams, as often happens in traditional down jackets. The matte-finish, gorgeous-to-touch, nylon-and-spandex blend has tremendous stretch and ease of movement. All this is to say, the water-resistant Launch Jacket is the lightest, most stretchy, goose-down jacket we could make. And the incredible breathability of this fabric makes it easy to wear without overheating. Adding to the simple silhouette is a stretch-nylon binding at the sleeve-cuff openings and hood opening. There is a center-front zipper, and for storage, there are hand pockets (one with a hidden phone pocket) and an interior patch pocket with a Velcro® closure. There is also a rib knit at the body hem. The Launch Jacket is about as AETHER as it gets.  Prepare for it to be an instant classic, a perennial in AETHER’s lineup for years to come.
