The Louis Poulsen design team developed the Toldbod family based on the light distribution of the PH Ellipse reflector: the last street light concept by Poul Henningsen. The first introduction was the Toldbod 290 outdoor family in 1982. Following its success, the Toldbod Glass indoor pendants were launched. The metal pendants were added later and complemented by the four larger editions in 2019. The Toldbod pendant directs the majority of light downward, true to PH’s philosophy of shaping light to brighten spaces while never shining directly into people’s eyes. The matt, white-painted inside of the elliptical shade helps to create uniform light, ideal for both focused lighting and general room ambience. Louis Poulsen based its original Toldbod pendant on the philosophy that the simpler the design, the greater its flexibility. While the Toldbod’s soft yet precise form hangs quite comfortably on its own, the design also works beautifully in rows or clusters, either in a single hue or a mixed palette.

Rizzatto 32 Pendant Lamp

In partnership with Louis Poulsen, world-renowned Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson has created a new, large-scale pendant. With the complex shapes of the OE Quasi, Eliasson combines his long-time interest in geometry and light, reinforcing his and Louis Poulsen’s shared idea that quality of lighting is essential to our lives. The pendant is composed of two contrasting yet interlinked geometric shapes. The outer layer is a rigid aluminum frame in the shape of an icosahedron with 20 triangular faces. Seemingly floating within the frame, is the inner form, a white polycarbonate reflector in the geometry of a dodecahedron with 12 pentagonal faces. LED lights are embedded in the inner vertices of the aluminum frame connected to light guides along the inner edges. The light is directed towards the reflector in the center, creating a spherical illumination back into the surroundings. The OE Quasi has been created with sustainability in mind, a core value of Eliasson’s work. The aluminum used is 90% recycled, while the other materials are entirely recyclable. Aiming for longevity, the design of the product enables replacement and recycling of parts. The complex geometric shape of the OE Quasi is perceived differently depending on where the observer stands, something that allows endless interpretations and perspectives. With its larger-than-life shape, the OE Quasi will brighten and visually interact with any space while creating smooth and glare-free light. The pendant has 12 LEDs embedded in the inner vertices of the geometric frame that are connected to light guides along the inner edges, creating an even illumination towards the reflector in the center of the lamp. This layered white core reflects the light spherically back into the room, resulting in glare-free and uniform light.
